Paint Bros responded quickly to our questions, discussed options thoroughly with us, was open to our ideas and yet contributed his own helpful suggestions and expertise to the project. He provided a fair bid -- similar to other bids. The The hard-working owner checked in with us everyday, and he did the work himself with a helper. He showed up when promised and was always positive and cheerful and really nice to have around. He worked in terrible weather (when others might have found an excuse not to show up) and did REALLY nice work. Our deck never looked so good! Paint Bros did our project the right way, not the easy way. We also added to the project and had them do our dock while they were here and they were willing to take that on too. In most cases, paint primer is necessary before painting over wood paneling. A hardy primer formula covers up stains and leaves a grippy surface for the new paint to hold onto. If you don’t use a primer first, you risk poor adhesion, visible blemishes, and a paint top coat that could flake away later. 

There are two primer choices: oil-based or latex-based. Choose an oil-based primer for durability and adhesion, but prepare for extra dry time and more VOC (volatile organic compounds) fumes. Or, pick a stain-blocking latex primer. They’re easy to apply, clean up, and affordable.

You may or may not be able to paint over your old exterior paint. If the existing paint is in good shape, then you can paint a new layer on top. But if your paint is flaky, you'll need to scrape off the old paint before adding any new layers. Also, it’s best to use primer first to help your paint stick properly.

In most cases, painting your brick house is a fine idea that can open up new aesthetic possibilities. However, the paint can slightly shorten the life span of brick, especially if moisture gets trapped underneath the paint layer. Once you paint, you’ll have to keep up with maintenance to avoid flaking and blisters.

Then, you’ll need to charge for the materials used, including primer and paint, and tools like brushes, drop cloths, and ladders.
