Our story begins in a garage with 2 employees (Kevin and Yvonne Kinzler). Kevin worked hanging drywall in between 24 hour shifts as a full time fireman. One day in 1988 a customer calls with a huge problem. With hogs en route and the Iowa winter coming fast, the customer’s insulation contractor stood him up. He called Kevin for a solution. First, Kevin agreed to do everything he possibly could to solve the customer’s problem. Next, he employed every friend, coworker, and family member possible (including 8 year old son Tanner) and Kinzler was in the insulation business. To outsiders it may look like Kinzler has expertly grown its business to move into expanding insulation markets over the last 30 years. Insiders know each growth opportunity came from solving a problem for an existing customer. Today, we solve commercial, agricultural, contractor, business and homeowner problems. We have added a few employees and locations, but our customer-focused problem solving and service remains the same.

Insulation questions, answered by experts

Closed-cell foam may come with a higher price tag, but it’s worth the investment because of its strength and durability. This material offers excellent thermal and moisture resistance, contributing to its long life span. Its construction enhances energy efficiency, which can lead to reduced heating and cooling costs over time.

The most affordable way to insulate behind unfinished walls is to install fiberglass batts or rolls. These total around $0.75 per linear foot, with the width matching the gaps between standard studs perfectly. However, it’s important to consider the R-value of your insulation and the climate in your area, as fiberglass insulation isn’t the best in terms of preventing heat transfer. Plus, the most affordable option may cost more on electricity bills over time. The most affordable way to insulate behind finished walls is to leave them up and use blown-in insulation to avoid drywall replacement.

Installing new insulation in a home is worthwhile if your existing insulation is old and has lost some of its insulative capability or if you don’t have insulation installed already. Installing new insulation will boost your home’s energy efficiency, which can reduce your heating and cooling bills and save money on HVAC repair and maintenance in the long run. New insulation also keeps your living space more comfortable, so you and your family will benefit from the work as well. Finally, installing new insulation boosts your home value, making it especially worthwhile if you plan to sell.

Spray foam has superior sealing properties, moisture resistance, and soundproofing capabilities compared to traditional insulation.

The primary reason that insulation saves you money over time is that it reduces your energy bills by making your home more energy efficient. A crucial part of an insulation system is a properly installed vapor barrier. Local building codes dictate whether your insulation requires a vapor barrier based on the type installed. While some high-quality wool insulation may not technically need a vapor barrier, most municipalities still require one to meet code.
