"They did an excellent job with all the work. They were able to perfectly color match the stain to my new detached garage which had vinyl siding. Very good attention to detail. All seams between siding and windows were caulked. They use high quality Behr products. They started and finished the job quickly and had very good communication throughout the job. Would definitely recommend them to anyone needing this kind of work done."

She had excellent ideas on selecting the best paint colors and went above and beyond my expectations to ensure I got a very nice finished product. "I recently had the pleasure of working with Richard Runston, I couldn't be more impressed with the results! From start to finish, the experience was seamless. The painter was professional, punctual, and attentive to every detail. They took great care in prepping the area, ensuring that everything was covered and protected, and the final outcome was flawless. The attention to detail in the strokes and the precision with which they worked made a significant difference. The space looks fresh, vibrant, and beautifully transformed. I highly recommend their services to anyone looking for a skilled, reliable painter who takes pride in their craft. Truly a wonderful job!"

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Deciding whether to stain or paint a pool deck depends on your budget, desired look, and the deck's material. Both options can work. Paint offers a wider variety of color options, provides excellent water resistance, and can last longer. However, it requires a primer and can eventually fade or peel. Stain is often cheaper, easier to apply, and penetrates the wood for a more natural look and longer-lasting finish. It also has great water resistance. The downsides are fewer color options and the need for a sealant. The choice can also depend on the deck material; for example, staining may be a better option for concrete as it bonds well and lasts longer than paint.

Your tool of choice ultimately comes down to personal preference. Many DIYers prefer applying stain with a lint-free rag, but others stick with a paint brush or a roller. Wipe the stain and work it into the wood, working with and against the grain. If you’re applying multiple coats, allow the stain to dry for around four hours between coats.

The staining or painting process involves cleaning the deck, sanding surfaces, applying a primer (if needed), and carefully applying stain or paint for an even, lasting finish.

Hot, intense sunshine can cause your stain to dry too quickly, which could lead it to look uneven or patchy. If you’re staining the deck during hotter months, it’s best to do it in the morning or evening once the wood has had time to cool down. If you’re staining in cooler weather with less sunshine, the time of day won’t make as much of a difference.

Ideally, it's best to stain your dock once per year. Applying stain doesn't just keep it looking nice and new; it also helps extend the dock’s lifespan. Since you want to ensure water levels are at their lowest, it's best to have this project done by a professional dock repair service in the cooler autumn or early winter months.
