"Jesse and his wife own this company. They work in partnership as a perfectly oiled machine. Mrs. Astorino contacted us very quickly after I made a bid request, was very professional as well as friendly. She even thanked us for the opportunity to bid our job! Wow! You dont run into that appreciative attitude very often! Jesses primary assistant is Ben who did a large part of the actual labor of tree trimming, tree removal and stump grinding. Ben is also really great to work with and friendly! Jesse was on top of coordinating every aspect of our large project and completed everything at our two residential job sites in very quick order. He was even able to schedule everything very quickly after giving us his bids. All phases of the work commenced with a minimum of energy expenditure on our part. Exactly what a homeowner with a cumbersome tree problem wishes for! We were also very satisfied with the pricing that AstorinosTree Service offered us!"

"Great guys to work with! They were very respectful, efficient and knew what they were doing. My project changed the landscape of my entire property--very big but necessary tree removal. The project went very well from planning to clean up. This was not the first time I've had them work on my trees; I won't let anyone else touch them!"

Arborists questions, answered by experts

The ideal time to prune a tree depends on the type of tree. Typically, late winter or early spring is a good time to prune but isn't always the case for "towering trees." It's best to trim when trees are dormant and before blooms appear but can vary depending on the tree type. It's always best to research the type of tree or ask a professional tree trimmer to determine when is the perfect time to prune your tree.

You can remove a small tree from your yard if there’s space for the tree to fall, you have the right tools and safety equipment, and you follow a clear plan of action. You’ll just want to follow the steps above carefully, and ideally, you will have experience doing similar tasks. If you have any doubts that you can do this project safely, though, you should hire a pro.

Homeowners are usually not responsible for trees that fall on power lines. Power companies usually have utility easements around power lines, which give them the responsibility to maintain any trees within about 15 to 20 feet of the lines.

Once you confirm a tree is dead, you should remove it. Dead trees eventually fall, and larger trees in particular can cause damage to rooftops, fencing, flowers, and other objects. As we mentioned, letting decayed wood stay in your yard also invites risks to the surrounding landscaping and vegetation.

Whether tree roots will continue to grow after a tree has been cut down depends on the species. Some tree roots will eventually die because they can no longer get nutrients through photosynthesis. However, other species that reproduce through root sprouts can continue to grow and produce new sprouts for seven years or more. For example, the roots of elms, ficus, and willows tend to regrow aggressively, while the roots of pines, oaks, and maples will typically die. To determine if a root system is still active, look for new sprouts on the old trunk, stump, or any exposed roots.
