"The project went fine in the end. There was confusion at the beginning with the price quote and what services I wanted done. The stain that was on the deck was difficult to remove and they were not to get off all of it.

"One structure in the form of a arbor with a gate completed our fence.
The other structure a small deck outside of the lower sliding glass doors, with a pergola added,
gives a quiet shady respite to the yard.
We also had Hal design and build a fountain feature added to the garden area itself.  Which gives a soft
and flowing water sound near the small deck.
The work overall is outstanding with a very finished look.  It was also accomplished as per estimate of
time and cost.  They were very considerate to make the work space neat and clean each day at finish
       time.

We would "highly" recommend these contractors to anyone wanting this type of excellent yard work done.

"The project went great from start to finish.  The work was done professionally and in a timely fashion.

The first call we made to Jim in the Cady Office was impressive and the work they did was exceptional."

"I was extremely happy both times with the quality of the work as well as the durability of the paint products used. They communicated with me throughout the process and were professional, dependable and trustworthy. I would use them again and would not hesitate to recommend them to a friend. "I was really happy with Justin and his team. For me this was a big job and involved a lot of money and a lot of moving parts. The ceiling texturing had been poorly done so removal was not as simple as scraping popcorn ceilings. The house had many different dark colored walls so the painting over them was not a simple task either. Justin is very meticulous and thorough and his crew is polite and determined to get everything just right. I can recommend them without any hesitation whatsoever."

"Everything was done better and faster than I expected! They were very knowledgeable about paints and the process. They even took on a few extra projects I needed painted such as some exterior cement wall and our porch swing. Very kind and professional!"

"Tom first of all pressure-washed my home's entire exterior, then he recommended a special sealant to use before the paint job on the shake siding of my house - it worked great - all the paint work was excellent and the job was done quickly and professionally - He also did a large interior room and I noticed that he used brand-new equipment to do the job, which also turned out excellent - Tom is a good resource to know about for painting"

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

Decks require several inspections during and after the building process, but the specifics vary depending on where you live. Most areas mandate that decks comply with local building codes and safety regulations for the foundation, framing, and structure. Some pros recommend a footing inspection, which verifies the depth, width, and location of the various footings to ensure they offer enough foundational support.

A sunroom will add more value to your home than a deck, but with a much higher up-front cost. Depending on its construction and function, a sunroom may be counted as additional living space, while a deck is strictly an outdoor feature. Both will increase your home’s value, but the sunroom will have a much bigger effect.

Any wood deck provides some ventilation to the area below, as is the nature of that type of deck design. However, areas that experience excessive humidity and associated moisture benefit greatly from a dedicated ventilation system in the form of strip vents. This addition helps the various wood boards contract and expand evenly throughout the years and reduces the chances of twisting, warping, and buckling.

The best direction for a gate to swing depends on its location and purpose, but swinging inward is the general rule. An inward swing is often considered safer, prevents the gate from opening into public spaces like a sidewalk, and may be required by local building codes.

There are exceptions and specific considerations. If your property is on a slope, an inward swing might not be possible. For a deck gate, it's safest to have it swing away from any steps. In a backyard, the direction can be a matter of preference, though an inward swing can be helpful when carrying heavy items like a wheelbarrow into a garden.

Regardless of direction, ensure the gate can open fully without hitting any objects or blocking spaces. While an inward swing is standard, a gate that can swing both in and out offers the most flexibility if your setup allows for it.

In the majority of cases, you don’t need regulatory permission or permits to remove decking components and materials. However, the exception is if you live in or near a wildlife conservation area, which could require permits and consent prior to beginning the demolition. Check with a local regulatory agency for more information.
