"One structure in the form of a arbor with a gate completed our fence.
The other structure a small deck outside of the lower sliding glass doors, with a pergola added,
gives a quiet shady respite to the yard.
We also had Hal design and build a fountain feature added to the garden area itself.  Which gives a soft
and flowing water sound near the small deck.
The work overall is outstanding with a very finished look.  It was also accomplished as per estimate of
time and cost.  They were very considerate to make the work space neat and clean each day at finish
       time.

We would "highly" recommend these contractors to anyone wanting this type of excellent yard work done.

Fencing questions, answered by experts

In Brainerd, slight leaning of posts after winter often signals frost heave, which can worsen if ignored. Small gaps between boards or panels may indicate moisture-related wood movement, a common issue in the region’s variable climate. Early rust on hinges or latches, soft spots at post bases, and gates that begin to sag are all early warnings that larger repairs may soon be needed.

Helpful?

In Brainerd, properties near wetlands or flood zones often require special setbacks and permits, which can limit fence placement. Septic systems on rural lots may restrict where posts can be installed. Watch for easements, steep slopes, or shore impact areas, as these demand careful planning. Soil type and buried utilities also affect installation, and neighborhood guidelines may impose additional restrictions.

Helpful?

In Brainerd, setting fence posts below the frost line—typically 42-48 inches—is crucial to prevent frost heave. Rushing concrete curing or skipping gravel drainage layers can cause posts to shift or rot in clay soils. Using improper fasteners or neglecting to verify property boundaries may result in structural issues or neighbor disputes, both of which can be costly and time-consuming to resolve.

Helpful?

In Brainerd, letting snow pile up along fence lines can lead to shifting posts and warped panels as the snow melts and refreezes. Running trimmers or mowers too close to fence bases often chips or cracks the material, especially in sandy soil. Overwatering nearby plants promotes rot, while unchecked vines or shrubs trap moisture, making fences more vulnerable to pests and decay.

Helpful?

New homeowners in Brainerd should prioritize marking property lines to avoid future disputes, especially in wooded or lakeside areas. Privacy fencing is ideal for homes near busy roads or water, while snow fencing can help manage drifting during winter. Garden fencing protects against deer and wildlife, and pool barriers must meet local safety standards to ensure compliance and peace of mind.
