"We hired Alan recently to re-drywall part of our basement that needed to be re-finished after having some water issues during the heavy rains last spring. The wall looks great, and Alan did a great job. He was good to work with, fair on price, got the project done in a timely fashion, and we would use his services again."

"We had our bedroom completely done. There was old wallpaper and old carpet. The wallpaper was removed and the walls were repaired and prepped for painting. There was a lot of prep work done. The carpet was removed and the floor was prepped for vinyl planking. The owner, Brandon, was able to match the floor that had been installed in the hallway two years ago. It was an ordeal, but he accomplished it. The paint job turned out beautiful, as well as the floor. I had no idea who Wall King was, but I am so happy we tried them. Brandon kept us informed of everything that was going on. He always showed up when he said he would. He and his crew were wonderful. Very friendly, professional, and took the time to get things done right. I would highly recommend them. You won’t be sorry."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

When choosing materials for finishing basement walls, consider factors such as moisture resistance, durability, and fire resistance. Opt for materials specifically designed for basement environments, like moisture-resistant drywall or cement board. Insulation with vapor barriers can help regulate temperature and prevent condensation. Consider using mold-resistant paints or coatings.

Research and consult with experts to select materials that are suitable for your specific basement conditions and intended use. Prioritize quality and compatibility to achieve long-lasting and aesthetically pleasing results.

If your home was built before the 1940s and was not remodeled in the past 50 or so years, you probably have plaster walls. Aside from assuming, there are some practical ways to tell if you have plaster walls, including the following: If you knock on the wall and it feels solid, not hollow, if you can’t insert a thumbtack easily, if there are cracks that look like spiderwebs, or if your home has curved, arched, or swirled walls, doorways, or window openings.

If you have an unfinished basement or attic, you could examine the backs of any finished walls to check, too.

Drywall can be toxic to the environment and to humans in some cases. As drywall breaks down in a landfill and comes in contact with other organic chemicals, it can create hydrogen sulfide gas or leach into the groundwater. Additionally, the CDC recommends methods for controlling the inhalation of drywall dust when handled. While the common ingredients of drywall—gypsum, silica, and mica—are naturally occurring, they can cause irritation in some humans.

Drywall can get wet and dry out without sustaining permanent damage, but only if the water damage is minor. If you have a small leak and are quick to correct the issue and set up blower fans and dehumidifiers, your drywall should dry out. If the leak is persistent, the drywall becomes totally waterlogged, or mold begins forming on the drywall, you should remove and replace it.

Vinegar and bleach are effective options for removing mold from drywall. Vinegar is a better choice if you have a smaller mold issue while bleach is best if you have a larger mold problem. If the area you're cleaning has limited ventilation, using vinegar would be a better option. In that case, you could mix vinegar with baking soda to remove more stubborn mold growth.
