"It was GREAT! He refinished the outside woodwork, replaced the deck railing and when the railing finish didn't uphold to the weather he has agreed to refinish it with a different stain. The railing itself is as sturdy as when he installed it, and the other finish is gorgeous. I recommend him 100%."

"Our A/C stopped functioning. They removed dust and debris from the coils in the 'inside' unit. They also cleaned the drainage hose that took condensation out. Unfortunately, they missed an overflow tray which filled up a few days later, overflowing above the ceiling of our living room. It soaked the plaster. We are still getting bids to fix it, but the bids are hovering in the ~$500-$700 range. VanderHyde was apologetic and fixed the problem promptly when notified, but the damage had been done. I think it was an honest oversight. But that oversight doubled the cost of the repair. I would still use them again.

"Alfredo did not want to cut the cabinet so he came up with a solution to move up the cabinet. This saved us from having to refinish the bottom of the cabinet and kept the look the same as the rest of the cabinets. He came at a moments notice, came up with a better solution and got the work done in maybe one hour and 15 minutes. We are very happy with the work that was done."

"Bob was hired to install a door where there never was one before.  Therefore, he had to make the doorway a bit larger to accommodate the pre-hung solid door.  That job took the longest and he also did the locks.  Then on to the screen door.  It really looks nice and works well for the owners.  There has to be some finishing on the interior (molding), but my son is able to do that.  The job was messy, for sure.  Redwood dust everywhere!  Wish I had known, I would have covered everything in the sunroom.  Although, I have to hand it to Bob.......he did clean up the wood chunks on the exterior this time!  :)
I had him last year to install a dishwasher, sink and then replace the disposal after sink was installed.  There was some carpentry work to be done so the dishwasher would fit properly.  Also, hard wiring for the dishwasher.  So far all is still in working order!  That cost was $400 total for labor alone.
I didn't use a coupon for either of the jobs.

"TLC Interior Finishes is the absolute best in the area! We hired Tammy and her team for a complete kitchen / main living level remodel as well as whole house interior painting. I had complete trust in Tammy from start to finish, her crew was always on time, delivered top notch work, answered the many questions we had along the way as well as provided professional opinions and guidance. The friendliness of her team is a 10/10, I always felt comfortable with them in my home knowing they wanted this project to be just as perfect as we did. We would absolutely hire again (we have future plans with TLC Interiors already!) and we can’t recommend them enough."

"The new porch will be maintenance free since the old wooden decking has now been replaced with composite.  Matt and Jeff are so conscientious and thorough and it shows through from the beginning of the job to completion.  In addition, Matt helped us greatly with his creativity and great eye for what works and what doesn't in terms of design and color.
We did obtain three different bids and Matt's was the highest but in the end, as the old saying goes, "you get what you pay for". Now that the job is done, we are so glad we decided to go with Build LLC for this job!  Matt and Jeff both demonstrate pride in every facet of the work they do.
We have more interior "refreshing" work to accomplish over the winter and we'll be hiring Matt for this work as well.  We would gladly and without hesitation,  recommend Matt and Build LLC for any work that you may need.

Subcontractors questions, answered by experts

The average build timeline for a home is between six and 12 months, with timelines pushing toward the upper end of that range if you’re creating a custom design or need a lot of land preparation before getting started. Hiring a general contractor or a custom homebuilder will help speed up the process, as you’ll see fewer delays between different parts of the build process getting done.

Buying a house is easier than building one from scratch. Buying an existing home is almost always faster, even if you need to make renovations once you move in. When you hire the right team to build a home, they will simplify the design and build phases so that there is little guesswork throughout the process, but building new construction will almost always take longer than buying an existing home.

You have three options in terms of professionals who can draw up blueprints: a draftsperson, an architect, or a structural engineer. A draftsperson can sometimes draw up plans for new construction, but they more often work from approved plans for alterations or to provide 3D drawings. Architects are usually the best option for standard residential construction projects. Structural engineers might be necessary for custom home builds or for alterations that could affect your home’s structural integrity. Draftsmen cost the least of the three, followed by architects and then structural engineers.

Italianate architecture is a reinterpretation of Renaissance styles, combining elements of Italian farmhouses and villas with Victorian materials and construction. This home style emerged in the Victorian era, gaining popularity in the U.S. in the mid-to late-1800s. The style came about in response to what many then viewed as the too-rigid and stuffy Classical style designs.

When planning a general remodeling project, it's important to define the scope of work, understand your goals, and set a clear, detailed budget. You should also assess the current structure and consult with professionals like architects or contractors. Create a realistic timeline for each phase, obtain any necessary permits, and build in contingency plans for potential delays or unforeseen issues. Regular communication with all involved parties is crucial to streamline the process.
