"The job was extensive. The old roof needed to be removed. There were areas of dry rot in the soffit as well as on the chimney surround. Northern Lights worked fast and was very thorough. We were extremely pleased with the quality of the work and the professionalism of the workers. They showed up as expected, worked timely and efficiently and left our property in a high-quality manner. It was very clear to us that they took great pride in their work."

"Bob returned my call on Thursday, 6/19/14 at 1p. It sounded to me like he was coming right over to inspect the hole. I waited 7 hours; then finally called him to say it was after 8p and I wanted to eat dinner, etc. The TV was playing in the background. He'd forgotten. He apologized and said he'd come by at 9a the next morning (Friday, 6/20/14). And he did.
In the meantime, I went to my shed an got my dog's wading pool, hauled it to the attic, and placed it under the hole in the roof.
After Bob inspected the hole from inside the attic, he gave me an verbal estimate of $125 and said he'd fit me in some time the following week. By Friday of the next week (6-27-14), I called Bob. He said he'd fix my roof early next week.
On Monday, 6/30/14, Bob rings the doorbell at 5p. He didn't call ahead of time, because he hadn't written down my phone number.
The job took an hour. He used my ladder, broom, scrap wood board, and shingles.
He had quoted $125. He asked for $150.
I paid the $150 and did not use the Angie's List coupon (I had forgotten to mention that I had printed one off on the day he made his quote so it was invalid).
June had been a really hot, sticky month. Bob had mentioned that he was really, really busy. He was always up-beat. I understood the delays but wished he had remembered my name and number instead of me having to call him back. He was the only person who was even interested in fixing my roof. The original roofing firm would not return my calls. (Too small of a job?)
Bob's assistant went above and beyond. While he was waiting for Bob to inspect the hole from on top of the roof, he brushed small branches, etc. from off the roof and then swept the debris from the gutters. <AWESOME!> (The neighbor's big oak trees drop a lot of branches, leaves, limbs on my roof. Thus, the hole in the roof.)
I'm glad the hole is fixed and would use Bob again (even with his quirks).

"Jody quickly contacted me and asked for photos of the roof. He was so awesome he offered to use shingles he had in stock for free. He also noticed shingles on our garage had been ripped of also. He repaired those too!! EXCELLENT SERVICE!!! Jody didn't try to nickel and dime me for every little repair. Jody also performed a roof inspection and made recommendations to ensure the home's is properly maintained."

"Vander Hyde did a great job.  Our water is very rusty, so it makes plumbing very difficult because the pipes are always rusted.  It was difficult to disassemble the fixture, but they had the right tools and they were able to get the worn parts out.  In the process, however, the handle to the fixture was broken.  The plumbers put the fixture back together, cleaned up and promised to be back with a new handle at the end of the day - which they did."

Pole Barn Builders questions, answered by experts

Yes, barn doors can be too heavy, although the limitation is usually imposed by the mounting hardware you buy and not your home’s framing, unless you’re building an unusually wide door. To keep the weight down, you can opt for 1-by material rather than 2-by material, and choose a softwood like pine rather than a hardwood like maple or oak. Check the weight limits on your mounting hardware, and always attach your door track to studs rather than to drywall anchors.

Skid foundations, deck block foundations, and concrete block foundations are the most affordable shed foundation options. Of these, we recommend deck blocks. Deck blocks are easy to install and level, and they raise your shed up off the ground to prevent rotting from exposure to water and moisture. Keep in mind that deck blocks won’t resist soil movement or frost heave, so they’re not ideal in areas with expansive soil or a deep frost line.

The difference between a pole barn and a stick-built barn is in the construction. Large poles in the ground provide support for pole barns. For stick-built barns, 2-by-4 or 2-by-6 lumber (known as sticks) create a frame around load-bearing beams. Stick-built construction is far more popular for residential homes. Pole barns are more cost-effective because they require fewer materials and less labor.

Concrete blocks are the cheapest way to base a shed. However, the space in between allows critters to go under, burrow, and even damage your shed’s frame. For a more pest-proof option, consider building a shed base with gravel or paver stones. Both options are fairly affordable and easy enough for a DIY project. For gravel, you can build a wooden frame to contain the loose material.

Pole barns and carports are similar in that they rely on posts for support and are often not connected to a primary structure. The main difference between the two is that pole barns usually include walls that surround the entire perimeter of the structure, while carports generally remain open on three or four sides. It’s possible to insulate garage doors and even exterior walls on pole barns to create a comfortable workspace, and it’s a bit more secure for storage purposes. However, carports are more affordable.
