"I awoke to discover that my water heater had failed during the night.  There was a large amount of water all over the floor and water was still moving into...and, of course, out of the heater.  I am older and my hands don't turn knobs, etc. well anymore and I was unable to budge the valves that controlled the water either at the heater or into the house in general.  Vanderhyde notes in its Yellow Pages ad that it provides emergency service.  I  called them at 7:30 in the morning and explained the situation.  A plumber was at my house within 10 minutes.  He got the water turned off, called a restoration company that they use and left to get the materials necessary to put in a new heater.  Both the plumber and the restoration folks were at the house within the hour, They replaced the heater, started the process of extracting the water and drying things out and generally just taking care of things.  The plumber's name is Daniel and he could not have been more reassuring, kind and helpful  The heater was old and the installation required some updating of piping, etc.  Given that and the emergency nature of the work I think the charge was very reasonable.  But the real plus for me was the very fast and helpful response when I really needed help.
