"Prior to contacting Midwest Spray Coating, the area that I live in experienced record high rainfall.   I discovered a small leak in the crawl (a house that I was under contract to purchase)  so I contacted several contractors for estimates. This was a short sale so I didn't have the same remedies that would typically be available for a conventional sale.    The first two contractors weren't available for over a month due to the high volume of work that was caused by the heavy rain.  My third call was to Midwest Spray Coatings.  They were also very busy but when I explained that I was under contract to buy the house they made time to help me. Midwest Spray Coating supervisor Jason Kalinowski demonstrated to me that he was very knowledgeable.   I was prepared for the worst but he explained that it was a relatively minor leak that could be repaired using the two part injection method.  With his estimate in hand,  I was able to get an OK from the seller's attorney, the mortgage holder and my mortgage provider  to proceed with the work.   I called Jason and once again, although he had a full work schedule, he agreed to make time to help solve the problem.  When the work was completed,   Jason prepared a written statement detailing  the scope of work.  I presented the statement  to my mortgage provider who reviewed and accepted it.  We closed on the our house about 7 days after Jason fixed the leak.  This was a short sale and there was no flexibility with the bank that held the mortgage, so, I believe, without Jason's help we would not have been successful with this house purchase. Midwest Spray Coating's office manager Melissa was also very helpful as she arranged to have the statements that were presented to the mortgage provider sent to me on very short notice.  I also found Chuck, one of the company principals,  who I spoke to on the phone, to be very helpful and professional.   I wouldn't usually write such a long report but Jason, Melissa and Chuck  and Midwest Spray Coating deserve the recognition."

"Easy communications with the company, Jake showed up on time, was clean and professional. Went up on the roof and came to the same conclusion as two other contractors, only difference his price was $1600.00 cheaper. Fixed it the same day, no leaks. Very happy with his work , He will be the first person I call when I replace my roof in a few years.

"When we decided to redo our kitchen in April of 2012, we knew what we wanted fixed, our budget and that's about it. We started talking to contractors, kitchen design centers and researching ideas. We quickly realized we were in WAY over our heads. A lot of places offer free design services if you buy all of your materials through them. We didn't want to be tied down. We didn't want a complete tear down to the studs, either. Homemade Design to the rescue! First of all the price was an absolute steal for the service provided. Amanda and co. Listened to what we wanted and came up with inovative, functional and beautiful solutions. Our house is old. We wanted to keep that 1920s feel, but still have a dishwasher, granite countertops and stainless appliances! Amanda had the brilliant idea of only replacing the bottom cabinets. She also gave me excellent instructions on how to refinish my existing cabinets so they look like new. This was a perfect solution for US. Homemade Design gave us ideas for layout, cabinets, lighting, wall paint, appliances, furniture, countertops, backsplash, faucets, sink, and cusions for built in. She would have recommended flooring if we wanted, but we didn't. Now, Amanda is more like a consultant...( I actually called her my kitchen remodel therapist). You still are ultimately responsible for the plan and what works for you. If your measurements are off (like mine were) that's on you. I was adament about no island and no microwave over the stove and so she didn't put those in the design. Some suggestions were not my style. And I said so. Honestly, if I picked out my own kitchen it would be so safe: white subway tile or something. Amanda gave me the guts to mix patterns and create something spectacular! It took almost a year to complete ( contractors fault) We did a lot of work ourselves. We bought the cabinets, backsplash tile, light fixtures, table and banquette cusions through Homemade Design at a great discount, we checked!! If you try shopping for any part of your kitchen, the volume of choices can be overwhelming. We loved having Amanda narrow it down for us. Communication was through email, mostly. She never took longer than three business days to respond to my million questions or concerns. Awesome. 5 months later, my kitchen is a dream come true. And I owe it all to Homemade Design!

"Excellent - I ended up hiring someone to help with shopping and finishing piece - waste of time and money. Jill's service was by far the most useful and best value in my decorating process.

"Johnny came out provided a detailed quote, explained what needed to be done. We hired him. He and his team arrived early, they did a great job. Left no mess behind what so ever. He was the third contractor that we met with and was hundreds of dollars cheaper. I would highly recommend him to anyone! We are considering him for additional contracting work."

"Bill Fry and his team did a great job painting and repairing / replacing the exterior of my home. The Fry proposal that I was provided was hands down the best proposal I received. The proposal not only met our needs in terms of cost but also in terms of a high quality, time-line committed and responsive solution. At each phase Bill Fry and his team consistently worked to insure that they were meeting our expectations and timing requirements. I can strongly recommend Fry Painting and Restoration especially if you are looking for a high quality competitive and cost effective proposal that is backed by a committed and customer driven mentality."

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Framing is the shell of the house. It includes several steps, including studs, plumbing, and electricity. A professional will ensure the wall frame is secured for the house’s structural integrity.

Framing prices change depending on the material and whether the wall is load-bearing. Most contractors use wood to frame a home, but metal is another popular choice.

One of the most common house framing basics for decades has been using wood for the framing work. However, some framing contractors now suggest using steel frames. Steel is lightweight, resistant to fire, and resistant to moisture, all of which are areas where wood framing could cause problems. However, steel framing is more expensive than wood and limits your ability to insulate the home.

Yes, you can hang picture frames, shelves, and other items on Trusscore panels. For lightweight items (less than 30 pounds), the company recommends using adhesive strips rather than nails or screws. However, you’ll need to secure heavier objects to a stud in the wall. In these situations, Trusscore recommends cutting away the panel material and fastening the object to the stud with metal hardware.

When deciding whether to use nails or screws for framing, the specific needs of the project must be taken into account. Nails have long been the go-to option for framing due to their affordability, ease of installation, and ability to withstand shear forces. They are perfect for structural framing projects where fast assembly is essential. In contrast, screws offer exceptional holding power and are particularly useful in situations requiring increased strength and resistance to pull-out forces. For projects that prioritize accuracy and long-lasting quality, screws may be the preferred option, though nails remain a dependable and efficient choice.

Not all porch columns are load-bearing, though they can be. Some porch columns are simply decorative. There are ways to identify a load-bearing column, like looking for visible seams and a foundation. Also, check to see if the column directly enters the ground. In some porch installations, a contractor will excavate a hole to install a column into the earth along with a buried cement base for stability.
