Homeowners insurance may cover shower pan leaks, but it depends on the type of coverage you’re looking for. Typically, home insurance policies cover sudden or accidental water damage, for example, if it comes from a busted pipe or malfunctioning appliance. Damage to a shower pan is usually gradual. A repair or replacement of your shower pan usually won’t be covered by your policy. To keep window wells from filling up with water, you need to stay on top of maintenance. Remove debris as it fills up, and regularly loosen the gravel at the base if it’s become compacted. You can also reslope your yard to make sure water flows away from the window well (and your home’s foundation), and you can even install a window well cover to prevent debris from building up. Installing an actual drainpipe at the base of the well can also prevent window well drainage problems.

A liquid drain cleaner can sometimes make a clog worse over time if you use it improperly or too much. The chemicals in drain cleaners can corrode and damage pipes, causing cracks and leaks that may cause further blockages. If the clog is more than the liquid drain cleaner can handle, the cleaner will simply add chemicals to a bigger overall problem.

Plumbing emergencies might include burst pipes or major pipe leaks, major drain clogs, lack of hot water, a gas leak, or a sewer line backup. Ultimately, it’s up to you to decide if a plumbing problem constitutes an emergency. If leaving the issue alone until regular business hours means your home will incur more damage or put your family at risk, then it’s typically considered a plumbing emergency—and worth calling up an emergency plumber to come fix the issue as soon as possible. Does home insurance cover plumbing? Many policies will cover sudden and unexpected plumbing emergencies that aren't caused by homeowner negligence.
