"It was a pleasure to work with Scott from SGS. He responded quickly to our request for service at our cottage and kept us informed during every step of his work. We had standing water in our garage due to heavy rains. We tried to remove as much water as possible, but as the remaining water dried a white substance resembling mold appeared and covered much of the garage floor. Another company wanted to sell us VERY expensive mold remediation services, but Scott was not sure it was mold and had it tested. After testing, it was just some salts that leached from the underlying concrete when the water slowly dried up. Scott identified the probelm and saved us a lot of money by not trying to sell us services which we did not need. We would highly recommend SGS."

Small jobs welcome

"After the testing, I was called and my test report sent to me. The test expert on the phone went over the results with me. He told me what the numbers meant and then explained that I had 3 of the most toxic molds growing in my house. He said that the results were so concerning, he then immediately connected be to Biocide Labs to have them tell me what to do to rid the toxic mold from my house."

"Mike O'Connor and the Restoration 1 team came recommended highly by our property management company when we had a flood in the lower floor of our house. From first contact through final resolution, Mike was right on top of everything, great communication, lots of pictures, worked proactively with our insurance carrier and most of all, worked with us to ensure the work was completed quickly so that we lost as little rental income as possible. Cannot recommend Mike highly enough. If you are proactive and work with Mike, he will do everything he can to achieve the goals you agree on."

"Great. From the project manager - Bryan Foster - to the crew chief - Shane - I don't think I could have been in better hands. Professional, knowledgeable, polite, hard working, on time, no surprises, and they left the place cleaner than it was before they came!! I highly recommend this company and the individuals I mentioned."

Mold Testing and Remediation questions, answered by experts

A mold inspection costs an average of $660, with a typical range between $300 and $1,025. However, costs can be as low as $150 or as high as $2,800 depending on several factors. These include the size of your home, the type of mold, the extent and accessibility of the affected area, your location, and the number and type of samples required. Hard-to-reach areas like air ducts, crawl spaces, and wall cavities can increase the cost. Specific tests have different prices; for example, swab testing typically costs $200 to $300 per area, while more extensive air testing can range from $250 to $700. A thorough inspection is crucial for determining the scope of the problem and identifying the best remediation method.

Vermiculite insulation that comes from a particular mine before 1990 is likely to contain asbestos. This is particularly true in the U.S. However, not all types of vermiculite insulation contain asbestos. Since you can't detect the presence of asbestos without special equipment, it's best to assume that the insulation contains the dangerous mineral and to either leave it alone or hire a professional to handle it.

If you find black residue in your toilet tank, chances are it’s caused by manganese deposits from hard water and not mold growth. You can prevent these deposits from damaging your toilet by installing a water softener in your home, which also might improve the quality of your drinking water. You can also remove the deposits inside your toilet tank once every six months or so to prevent them from causing problems with toilet functionality.

Knowing what to expect during a mold inspection can help make the process easier. Prepare by closing doors and windows for 48 hours, turning off HVAC systems for at least two hours, and avoiding disinfectant chemicals for at least 48 hours.

The mold inspection process takes between 24 and 48 hours. Your professional will check walls, fireplaces, air ducts, vents, and windows for visible spores. They will also take an outdoor base air sample. Your pro will send these samples to a lab for testing and advise you on the findings.
