"Listen, I could write an entire novel about why you shouldn?t hire. Shady practices, unprofessional, overpriced, misleading. We hired Patrick to paint our house. He told us he was a one man team. The only thing Patrick did for us was scream at his team in our yard for our neighbors to see/hear and glue our garage door shut. We had to pull teeth to get the name of his insurance agent bc our garage door BROKE. He didn?t separate the weather stripping from the garage and it just glued it shut. When we needed touch up work, it took FOREVER to get him to come out and do it. He kept saying he would send out his team (the ones who did the poor line work in the first place) to which I told him several times NO. We hired you, YOU come fix this. He finally came out when I was more firm with him. Originally said morning, but came around 2pm. Which would be fine, but I thought a text would be a nice warning. He then left without saying a single word to me or my husband. Couldn?t apologize for all the trouble. Couldn?t face us. No text afterwards. I don?t like to leave negative reviews and like to give everyone the benefit of the doubt but my husband and I dealt with SO much from hiring Patrick and kept our cool 99% of the time. But with one issue after the other? I want to warn everyone out there to save themselves the headache and the money."

Since you’ll be going back over an oil-based paint (stain or varnish), you need the proper material for good adhesion. Using an oil primer is critical to ensuring that the longevity of your work stands the test of time. You can apply any type of paint (oil or latex paint) on top of an oil primer after it has cured.

It will usually take a professional painter between three and four hours to paint a stairway; if you’re DIY-ing, plan to spend between four and six hours, depending on the difficulty of your project and the size of your hallway or foyer.

The best type of paint to apply to stainless steel is epoxy paint. This material is also popular for painting over concrete and other floor surfaces because it creates a tough, durable surface. Keep in mind that the epoxy paint curing time is three to seven days, but refer to the manufacturer’s instructions for specific wait times. 

You’ll often have picture-perfect results by painting over the old color. However, if you’re transitioning from a dark wall color to a light one, you’ll want to use a primer first to save yourself from applying multiple coats for coverage. The higher quantities of VOCs in exterior paint will have a harder time dispersing in an enclosed space, so do everything you can to direct them out—like turning on a fan and opening your windows and doors. Afterward, you can simply prime and redo your walls with interior paint, and no one will know the difference.
