"Friendly and on time for appointments. Did an outstanding job powerwashing and staining my large deck. They also went out of their way to make sure the extra repairs needed were done correctly. I have had nothing but compliments on the change in the appearance of my deck."

Customers say: Quick response

"I made a request for the work on Saturday Feb 14 on the Angi website. Five companies were suggested. I contacted three. Within ten minutes I got a call from Franz Muller at PLC Handyman. I described the work, he quoted $250, and said he could come take a look at 3 pm today. He and his partner arrived at 2:30 pm, came in, had a look, confirmed the $250 quote, I gave them the go-ahead, and they left for Lowe s to get materials. They came back with six doorknobs. Franz took his planer to the top of the sticking door. I asked if he shouldn t take the door off to do that and he said no. The planer chipped the paint on the sides, broke off twi sizeable chips on the end and made a sawdust mess on the wall, the top of a dresser, and the carpet. Meanwhile his partner removed one doorknob and said there was a problem. The doors were old and not standard. They needed a kit to cut bigger holes for the new knobs. As they left, Franz announced this would double his original quote to $500. Caught off guard with the work already started, what was I to say? I told them proceed. They headed back to Lowe s. They returned with the kit, some superglue to repair the door chips, and an additional knob because they only bought six originally (I had shown them there were seven). Franz glued the chips and then left my house. His partner did all the doorknob work. I helped him a little by removing strikes and cleaning up sawdust messes. He said Franz had gone to get something to eat. When most of the knobs were replaced, Franz reappeared, hung around, then used my bathroom without asking. He left a big mess in my toilet and didn t bother to turn on a fan. When all the knobs were replaced and checked, Franz announced the fee was $500 plus the two Lowe s invoices ($150). I said I wasn t clear that the quote didn t include parts, but I wrote a check to him for $650. I got no written receipt, no warranty, and all the old knobs were left for me to dispose of. My wife and I did all the cleanup of sawdust and debris. I had to touch-up paint the door. The whole job seemed to be handled in a messy and rushed fashion. Nothing in writing. Messes left. No offer to remove or cover wet shoes. Even the kit I paid for was not offered to be left. They kept it. This is my first use of Angi. I guess I thought vendors were pre-screened so these kinds of problems would not occur."

"We hired Reliable Indiana Contractors to clean two of our offices. We remodeled both locations and have put a lot of care and effort into making our office space an enjoyable environment and we needed a cleaning service that put the same amount of care and effort into our facilities. After interviewing a handful of companies, Reliable Indiana Contractors stood out. Laney and Bill worked with us to create a custom cleaning program that suited our specific needs and fit into our budget. Since hiring Reliable Indiana Contractors, they have been in regular contact with me regarding our facilities â even making suggestions as to various non-cleaning related items we needed to address. I have received multiple compliments as to the quality of work they do. They care about the work they do and go above and beyond to service their clients."

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Covering your deck with a breathable tarp can protect it from snow, ice, and cold winter temperatures. This is a good winterizing solution if you don’t plan to use your deck at all during the colder months. However, it might be best to skip the tarp if you’ll still be walking on your deck or using it in a limited capacity.

A random orbital sander is best for sanding a deck because it is easier to handle than other power sanders and is less likely to damage the wood. Most decks are made of types of softwood, so a gentler sanding process is essential to prevent permanent blemishes. For example, belt sanders can gouge softwoods.

Although composite decking is extremely durable, it’s also susceptible to extreme heat. Prolonged exposure to sunlight can cause fading, warping, and cracking. Composite also retains heat more than wood, which makes it dangerous to walk on in the summer. You can help prevent heat damage by only building with composite in shaded areas or using rugs to cover the hottest spots.

Yes, you can draw your own deck plans in many cases. However, you must know your local building codes and be familiar with carpentry principles. Even then, it's always best to run your plans by a professional contractor with experience building decks, whether you choose to DIY some of the build or not.

The proper and most comfortable height for a deck stair riser, also called a step, is between four and seven inches. A height of seven inches is often considered ideal for a strain-free step that minimizes the risk of trips and falls. While it is possible to have risers up to 12 inches, this height can be challenging for children, pets, or individuals with mobility issues. For optimal safety and comfort, pair a seven-inch riser with a tread depth (or run) of at least 10 to 12 inches. Always check your local building codes, as they may have specific requirements that differ from these general recommendations.
