"I was unable to show up to the inspection, but my woman was able to. He was respectful and explained everything to her. He also had a very professional well laid out inspection report the next day. 10/10 would hire him again!"

"Kase Dyksma was here on time as planned. He was very pleasant to talk to. He brought all the tools necessary including a ladder. He left no mess even when looking into the attic. When he finished Kase gave me a copy of the report and explained it. He gave me a pleasant good bye and was gone. Oh, he even loves dogs! He's the very best!"

"Mike and his daughter performed the inspections. He was responsive to my questions and doubts and was able to set up the appointment for the next day. I would have expected that the smoke detectors along with the doorbell to be tested - I didn't think of this until after the inspection. I did ask him to check some of the lights (porch, closet) that maybe would have been missed. Price was higher than most but he was able to accommodate my timing."

Radon Detection and Reduction questions, answered by experts

The average radon mitigation system uses about 876 kWh of electricity per year, although the exact amount of electricity used will vary depending on the size of the radon fan. Once the system is installed, the annual increase to your energy bill could range from $30 to $300 per year, again depending on the size of the fan.

There are steps you can take as a homeowner to remediate radon yourself. While a radon reduction professional can make the biggest impact in your home, you can make efforts to improve radon levels on your own by sealing cracks, increasing ventilation, and testing for radon regularly.

The cost to replace a radon fan ranges from $300 to $600 for the fan itself, with installation adding an additional $200 to $500. Overall, the total cost for replacement can range from $500 to $1,100, depending on factors such as the fan model, home size, and local labor rates. If the fan is part of a larger radon mitigation system, the price may be higher.

No level of radon is technically safe, but since it is present everywhere, complete avoidance is impossible. The average radon level in homes across the United States is 1.3 picocuries per liter (pCi/L). The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends taking preventative measures if your home's radon levels are between 2 and 4 pCi/L or higher.

Ideally, no one will live in a house with elevated radon levels, as prolonged exposure increases the risk of serious health issues like lung cancer. However, homes with radon can be made safe through mitigation systems, such as active soil depressurization. Testing for radon regularly and addressing high levels helps ensure a safe living environment.
