"They did a wonderful job. I’ve already had them do other trees for me. They did a great job cleaning up the branches and a great job raking up stuff afterwards. I would definitely recommend them. They went above and beyond to get rid of the dead trees for me. Thank you for your help."

"I am very happy with the knowledge, skill, and efficiency of the UP Tree Services crew. Very thankful to have found them. There is a general sense of good humor among the crew as they dig into the work in front of them. Tom is also a general contractor, and they are going to do a variety of projects for me over the next year."

"Contacted this pro to get a much needed tree removed. They came out right away, assessed the scope of work, and provided a very reasonable quote. When asked when they could do it, he replied, "I'll have a crew over here today!" The crew came a few hours later and had the tree down and mostly cleaned up in a very short time. The next morning, they returned and grinded the Stomp and finished the clean up. Their work is in their name as my tree really was here today and gone tomorrow."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

Homeowners are usually not responsible for trees that fall on power lines. Power companies usually have utility easements around power lines, which give them the responsibility to maintain any trees within about 15 to 20 feet of the lines.

Since summer is a busy time for tree companies, the cheapest time of year to remove a tree is during the winter. February and March are typically the prime time to hire a tree removal pro, and some homeowners living in colder climates can save around 20% off services. It depends on location and the company, but you can always shop around for the best deal.

You need to remove all branches affected by Dutch elm disease. If your tree has several affected branches, you will probably need to remove the entire tree. First, consult a pro to be sure that you’ve correctly identified it as an elm tree. Make sure the tree is properly disposed of with a plastic covering or through debarking, chipping, or burning.

There are a few things you should look for in a stump removal company to make sure you’ll be satisfied with the results:

  • Proper business licensing and insurance

  • History of positive reviews

  • Good rating with the Better Business Bureau

We also recommend asking any company you’re considering the following questions to help find the best value:

  • Will you remove the roots as well as the stump?

  • Will you haul away wood chips or large portions of the stump?

  • What method will you use to remove the stump?

No, you cannot throw branches from your neighbor’s tree back into their yard, nor can you discard leaves or other plant matter that originated from their yard back over there if it happens to land in your yard. You are responsible for cleaning up plant matter that made its way into your yard.
