They showed up on the date and time we had Scheduled and even called the day before to make sure we would be home. His crew came in introduced themselves. "High Standard lives up to their name! We needed a collapsed plaster ceiling repaired and another small section of drywall patched. Both areas look great. Clay & Kristen were kind, fast, and delivered quality work."

"Had a fantastic experience working with Jerry and his crew. Hired them to insulate & drywall the interior or our garage. We also wanted new lighting and to make the garage a â flexâ space. Jerry was engaging and thorough in his initial call to discuss options & pricing. Jerry and Arthur were prompt, attentive and respectful of our privacy during the week long project. We were extremely satisfied with the work completed and would recommend Ace of Trades to anyone! Thanks Jerry!"

Hello my name is Kylie, I have been in the drywall and painting fields for over 20 years. I am willing to travel over an hour from the Midland, Bay City, and Saginaw area for jobs. I do new construction and remodeling, full houses, additions, patch and repair. I am proficient in all aspects of drywall hanging and finishing as well as many different textures as well as painting. I am very easy to get along with and really listen to what the needs of the job are so making a plan that will be satisfying to the home owner.

Drywall Insulation questions, answered by experts

The best tool for skim coating drywall is a skim coating blade, which can smooth out joint compound in wide stretches. While you could use a smaller drywall knife for skim coating, the smaller size means it’ll take longer to smooth out each section. Instead, consider investing in a skim coating blade for the quickest application.

You can repair plaster ceilings yourself after the cause of the ceiling damage has been addressed. However, the repair can easily take 5 hours and can be slightly challenging for those without previous experience. If you do decide to flex your DIY muscle, have a helper to help hold the ladder and pass you the tools for safety purposes.

Drywall can get wet and dry out without sustaining permanent damage, but only if the water damage is minor. If you have a small leak and are quick to correct the issue and set up blower fans and dehumidifiers, your drywall should dry out. If the leak is persistent, the drywall becomes totally waterlogged, or mold begins forming on the drywall, you should remove and replace it.

You may need to replace drywall because of smoke damage. If the drywall is covered in soot, you may be able to clean it, but it will require a lot of time and effort. You could spend hours cleaning the drywall only to find there is more damage and it needs to be replaced anyway. It’s usually easier and safer to remove the smoke-damaged drywall and replace it.

The short answer is yes, a sagging plaster ceiling is dangerous. Sagging plaster on a wall is something you should fix immediately, but it isn’t a major concern. If the same type of sagging occurs on a ceiling, however, you could be in danger of your ceiling falling in large chunks. When plaster sags, it loses its strength and ability to hold itself up. The bonds that hold it together are strong, though, so if a sagging area falls, it will take large pieces down with it.
