"John and Miles were excellent workers. They were very polite and professional. The job they did supporting my sagging basement wall looks like it should take care of the problem. They placed steel plates against the basement wall, and also buried other ones out in the yard, and connected them with steel rods. Then they torqued them, which should prevent any further sagging of the wall."

"Ayers was great to work with! Before even coming to the house, they sent a booklet regarding their systems so that we could do our own research. When Donny arrived, he inspected our basement and made several recommendations, taking the time to explain why he suggested each option over others. When the crew arrived for installation, PJ took the same time and care explaining their process and answering our questions."

"I started calling around to have a few jobs done around the house back in February of 2016. Most responses were to call after the snow melts. By April of 2016, everyone was booked up and didn't give me the time of day. Living out of state, I visited the house in late May and found it in worse shape than I thought and desperately needed a contractor to take over. After calling around, trying to get quotes from about ten contractors, only two responded that could do all I needed. These two, were able to meet me that day and got by quotes before I left town. After securing the funds needed, Andrew was the only one who could provide within my time frame. As soon as the work started, I got picture updates on the house and recommendations of improvement. His personal judgment was paramount in this job since I was states away. The house was complete with new siding, repairs to inside damage, painted interior, refinished hard wood floors, repaired fence, replaced storm doors, new outside lighting, repaired plumbing, electrical, resurfaced driveway and other small projects around the house. The house looks so good, I don't want to have to sell it! I like to see reviews that aren't so top quality, but I cannot say anything negative about Andrew and his crew. He understood my needs and limitations and was very flexible and honest. If I ever return to Manistee, he will be my go to for any further projects."

Basement Waterproofing questions, answered by experts

Make sure you're calling in the right expert to help repair and/or clean your crawl space. A serious issue may require multiple experts that include a local mold remediation pro, an HVAC pro, a foundation pro, and a plumber. You should also consider using a nearby junk removal service to avoid handling debris that could be covered in mold, fungi, rot, or asbestos.

As the first layer of water protection for your roof deck and the building materials below, underlayment is designed to prevent water damage, so it’s okay if it gets wet. However, you shouldn’t rely solely on underlayment for protection. If rain interrupts your roof project and you have all of the underlayment down, you’ll likely be fine, but you should install shingles over that layer as soon as possible, as long-term exposure can lead to water damage.

Proper drainage is the only way to ensure that your crawl space stays dry. Depending on your property and the extent of your issue, you might need to consider a gutter system, a French drain, or sump pumps to avoid and handle water and moisture under your home. Dehumidifiers can also help to prevent moisture from accumulating if you have a high-humidity environment.

Standard homeowners insurance policies may cover basement water damage or flooding, but only if it is caused by a sudden and accidental event that is a covered peril, such as a burst pipe or a failing appliance. Damage caused by natural flooding from extreme weather, groundwater seepage, or heavy rain is typically excluded and requires a separate flood insurance policy. Some insurers also offer an optional water backup endorsement for issues like sewer backups. Review your policy or speak with your agent to understand your specific coverage.

To ensure your basement walls are waterproof, it's crucial to address any existing moisture issues before finishing. Inspect for signs of water seepage, such as dampness or discoloration, and repair any leaks or cracks. Install a vapor barrier to prevent moisture from penetrating the walls, and consider waterproofing paints or coatings.

Proper drainage systems, such as interior or exterior waterproofing, can also be beneficial.
