"Old sump had fried without our knowledge and basement acquired water. Had NO clue on how to replace/reinstall the replacement pump we purchased or hook it up, so we called Dependable. Set up appt for that day, they called back within 2 hours to confirm that their tech Jeremy was on his way. Professional, prompt response, courteous, and took the time to explain the sump system and preventative measures we should take in the future. "Terrible terrible terrible. We contacted Mr. Rooter mid Michigan. Mount Pleasant location. They sent us an unlicensed plumber without telling us. They also advertise that they are BBB accredited and have an A+ rating. They are not BBB accredited and they have an F rating. The plumber with the license that was sent to our home, walked off the job when we asked him to uninstall 3 toilets that were the wrong brand we asked for Toto or Kohler toilets and he installed American Standard. He flipped out, swore at us and walked off the job. We had a water softener replaced as well. The one we replaced was in working condition and he took it with him when we were gonna use it somewhere else. It was never returned, even though we asked for it. They tried to sneak on an extra $500 for an extra hose bit. The most dishonest company I have ever seen from lying about plumbers having plumbing license, lying about Better Business Bureau accreditation, and rating. Lying on invoicing total bill. 14,000"

While not every clog has the same symptoms, the most common early sign that your main sewer line is clogged is that multiple drains in your home are draining slowly. If you’re not using a septic system, problems with your home’s plumbing won’t cause this—it’s a city problem. A large blockage in the municipal sewage lines may cause those lines to back up into your home. This is extremely unpleasant and can be a serious health risk due to bacteria and other contaminants. Simple blockages can be cleared using household plungers or manual snakes, provided no severe plumbing issues exist.

Some experts estimate that descaling your cast iron pipes can extend their lifetime by upwards of 50 years, although there’s not a lot of research to prove it. But we do know that without proper maintenance, cast iron pipes can quickly rust—leading to more expensive issues like burst pipes or main line clogs.

Thankfully, it’s pretty rare to find a rat in your toilet. It’s more likely in larger cities with big sewer systems that can be feeding grounds for rats, but even then, you still shouldn’t fret. 

“I wouldn’t worry too much about rats coming up through the sewers,” Bradshaw says. “I’d say only one out of a thousand rodent customers we get actually have this problem. And of the 20 or some customers that have had this happen, they’ve all only had just one rat come up this way.”
