"We initially hired Bluebird to waterproof and encapsulate our crawlspace. They did a great job and so we hired them again to repair some joists. Once again, the work was great. We did encounter an unexpected problem with an old sump line, but after sending an email to Bluebird, they were willing to come right out and fix the problem. I even spoke with the owner, Troy, and the way he handled the problem made me feel like a valued customer. Other effective waterproofing methods, which can be used depending on your home's specific needs, climate, and soil type, include sealing the interior walls, landscape alteration, installing interior drainage systems, and using a dehumidification system to control moisture levels.

External pressure on the basement wall can cause it to bow inward. Soil, heavy with water saturation, is commonly the main culprit. The soil exerts immense pressure on the wall, causing it to fail, at least partially. This is known as hydrostatic pressure—these situations can occur after rainfall or simply due to regular groundwater presence and may be temporary or more permanent.  

Permits may be required for major repairs, structural work, or electrical and plumbing restoration after a flood. Check with your local building department to determine permit requirements and associated fees for your flooded basement cleanup project.
