"EXCELLENT CONTRACTOR. My project was drywall installation during a bathroom remodel. I chose Golden Rule after reading the reviews and obtaining an estimate. The price matched the budget I had set for this part of the project. The work was performed during four visits over four days (drying periods are required for drywall). Michael showed up on time each day. He was very polite and very helpful with explanation of drywall techniques and also offered advice on other household repairs I might need. Installing or repairing plaster on ceilings differs slightly from performing the same motions on a wall. You’ll apply slightly less plaster to lower the overall weight of the ceiling. Wall texturing is common, whereas most ceilings are smooth plaster. Tough coat plaster is strong, meaning you can use less while retaining a solid surface.

If you plan on heating your garage, you must install a vapor barrier when drywalling the garage. A vapor barrier protects your garage from frost and mold that can occur through condensation. If your garage is unheated, you don't need to install a vapor barrier. The only exception is if you regularly crank the heat in your car before getting in it. In this case, you may still want to install a vapor barrier, as your car can heat your garage.

Although they have similar applications, spackle and joint compound are not the same. Their primary differences lie in their composition, consistency, and ideal use cases.

Spackle is composed of gypsum and binding agents, making it thicker than joint compound. It dries quickly and is easy to sand, which makes it ideal for small wall repair projects like filling nail holes or patching minor damage.

Joint compound, also known as drywall mud, consists of limestone and gypsum. It is primarily used for large-scale projects, such as taping and finishing the seams on newly installed drywall. It tends to shrink more than spackle and can be more difficult to spread.

While both products can be used to fill small depressions and cracks, spackle cannot replace joint compound for taping and mudding new drywall. Conversely, you can often use joint compound for small patching jobs typically done with spackle.

Depending on the place where the cutting error occurred, you may be able to fix it. Learning how to patch a hole in drywall is challenging, but if you can tape and mud drywall, you can do it. Having said that, patching is time consuming. Early in the installation process, you may find that it’s easier and far less time consuming to just start over with a new sheet of drywall, cutting a new hole in the right spot. You may be able to use part of the incorrectly cut piece elsewhere, so it’s not completely wasted.

There are a handful of reasons why your drywall anchors are breaking. Using the wrong type of anchor is the most common problem, so always make sure you’re using the best option for a particular project. That there are electrical wires or plumbing where you’ve placed an anchor or that your drywall is weak are two other possible causes.
