"I hired Eric at fresh layer interiors to paint the entire interior of my home. The quality of service was great. The bad news is that you’re going to have to reapply the proper exterior paint at some point in the not-so-distant future. Otherwise the current coat will chip, crack, and fade, or worse, develop mold or an insect infestation without remediation.

You can sand paint off a wall. However, it's difficult and time-consuming. Depending on why you wish to remove the paint, there are simpler ways to achieve similar results. Scraping off any loose paint and applying a skim coat is the most common way to hide a damaged wall or paint job.

Sandblasting is a common method for removing paint. It works great if the underlying material is tough. This is because you can then use more abrasive sandblast materials, making the paint removal process much faster and less expensive. WD-40 is an effective way to remove glue and other sticky residue from many surfaces, including wood. Spray the WD-40 on the area, allow the product to sit for a few minutes, then carefully wipe away the residue. As with other adhesive removal methods, test the WD-40 on an inconspicuous spot first to ensure it won’t damage the finish. 

You can paint over lead paint, or “encapsulate” it with a special paint that includes an ingredient called an encapsulant. The EPA approves encapsulation as a lead paint removal method as long as the paint remains undisturbed. Standard types of paint without an “encapsulant” from the big box stores or hardware stores do not meet EPA standards for remediation of lead-based paint.
