"Everything went wonderfully with this company.  They were very professional, listened to exactly what my problem was, and explained to me how they were going to diagnose the problem and/or solve it before doing any actual work.  Once they started, the team (three people came) worked together like a well-oiled machine.  One was in the room with diagnostics, one was at the fuse box looking for possible problems there, and the third went into the crawlspace beneath our house to look at the physical wiring.  Once the problem was found (there was a faulty wire beneath the house that had come loose from the junction box), it was fixed and tested within minutes and another full diagnostic was done to make sure there were no other possible issues.  They cleaned up after themselves very neatly.  They also replaced the light switch with a dimmer switch at no extra cost!  Well within my budget, and came in even lower than their original (FREE) estimate!  I would highly recommend this company to anyone in the Bergen County area.

Carpet Stretching questions, answered by experts

No, it works best under synthetic carpets in high-traffic or moisture-prone areas. Avoid using moisture barrier padding under natural fiber carpets like wool, which need air circulation. The barrier can trap the moisture against natural fibers and cause problems. Also, you can skip it in low-risk areas like upstairs guest bedrooms, where the extra protection often isn't worth the added cost.

In addition to having your carpets professionally cleaned, most carpet cleaners offer a range of supplemental services and treatments, including:

  • Patching and repairing holes: $100–$250 per hole

  • Carpet stretching to remove wrinkles: $60 per hour

  • Water extraction: $450–$2,000, depending on square footage

  • Pet stain and odor removal: $30–$50 per hour

  • Furniture and upholstery cleaning: $50–$80 per item

  • Furniture moving and removal: $10–$50 per item

  • Padding replacement: $4–$7 per square foot

  • Teflon treatment: $20–$40 per project

  • Environmentally friendly carpet cleaning: $100–$200 per room

Standard padding works like a sponge. It absorbs liquid, soaking up every drop of moisture that hits it. Moisture barrier padding does the opposite because it has a waterproof coating made of plastic film, rubber, or treated foam. It doesn’t absorb spills and keeps them on the surface instead, so you can clean them up before they damage your subfloor.

Carpet glue is very sticky, but it's not permanent. The glue usually lasts as long as a typical carpet installation, which is five to 15 years. For the best results, you should always use the right type of carpet glue for the area you're using it in. There are carpet glues for high-traffic areas, which are more high-quality and durable than others.

If you don’t put padding under your carpet, the carpet won’t be protected from wear on the underside. This could result in a shorter life span for your carpet and increased carpet repair costs over time. An unpadded carpet can also be less comfortable to walk on, depending on your subfloor and the type of carpet.
