"I had a great experience with Maine Roots Stump Grinding. Lucas took care of two stumps for me and did an amazing job! Communication was excellent from start to finish. Lucas was friendly, prompt, and easy to work with. Both stump sites look great. What a difference it makes in how my yard looks to have the stumps taken out. I really appreciate the quality of the job and would definitely recommend this service to anyone needing stump grinding."

"I called Travis in early July to come and estimate the cost to remove a 36 year-old 60-70' tall Catalpa tree ( the one that has orchid-like flowers and then grows long green beans). He came over that same day to look things over and gave us a very fair estimate. We decided then and there to sign on to have it scheduled for sometime this summer or early fall. He expected it would be mid to late August, which was perfect for us. He called us around noon on Monday August 24, asking if he could come over and drop that tree in a half-hour or so. We said yes and he was there in 20 minutes with a bucket truck, a dump truck, and a big chipper. They got set up in a heartbeat and within 1 hour the tree was limbed, taken down in sections except for an 8' section of the trunk, and all of it chipped and in the truck, thanks to Travis and Butch. Next they felled the trunk and used the boom to load the trunk pieces into the dump truck with the chips. A few minutes work with rakes cleaned up all the small debris and the job was done. The skill and proficiency they showed was amazing to watch. Every move each man made was perfectly synced to the other man's actions. Real teamwork at its best! We are so impressed by TLC Tree in every aspect and would highly recommend them to anyone in need of their services. They are the BEST, hands down, no doubt, amen. Thanks, Travis and Butch!!"

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

Generally, homeowners do not need permission to cut down a tree on their own private property, but there are several exceptions where a permit may be required. You might need a permit if the tree is particularly large, old, or a protected species, such as a heritage tree. Trees located near public property or power lines can also be subject to special rules. Additionally, many local governments and homeowners associations (HOAs) have regulations controlling which trees can be removed to manage an area's appearance or prevent the spread of invasive species. To avoid hefty fines, it is crucial to check with your local government and HOA to determine if a permit is needed before you begin.

Full decorating services often provide rental trees for their Christmas packages, so you shouldn’t have any trouble finding one. However, individual interior decorators and others may not offer rented trees, so always check the specifics of their services before booking. Keep in mind that you’ll need to prepare the Christmas tree for pick-up shortly after the holidays.

All of the tree root removal methods mentioned above are effective on any kind of root, whether it’s still growing or simply needs a gentle nudge to finish decomposing. The only difference is that larger roots tend to be harder to remove and may require multiple chemical treatments as well as manual labor to eradicate.

The best tool to cut trees is a chain saw. You can adjust your chain saw to the correct size based on the size of the branches, offering you the fastest and cleanest cut for medium- to large-sized trees. Depending on the type of chainsaw you use, you can cut through larger trees than you would with a more manual tool like an ax.

You can use a felling ax to chop down a tree by following the same prep and steps as a chainsaw, but be prepared to use some muscle. For trees bigger than 7 inches in diameter, it can take some time and serious strength to cut down a tree using just an ax.
