"I hired Far North Woodworks to take down an existing pool deck and build a new one. Nate provided me with a few different options and then had plans made to submit for the permit. He completed the deck with good timing to use for the summer. We love how it turned out and will definitely call him for any future projects!"

"Im am very happy I found this company! Thanks Nick and Marshal for the outstanding work. Their quality/detail is unbeatable! They went above and beyond to meet my expectations. They had a tough job to fix a deck that someone else built so poorly. They explained what could be done, what could improve but also what couldnâ t be fixed entirely. The only thing was that my budged was tight, but I also requested other things outside the quote he gave me. The only thing I would do different next time was to purchase all the items in advance and ask them to install. That would create less trips for them to the store prior to initiate the service/project. Thanks Nick and Marshal with everything. I hope to hire you next time."

The company is very professional and pays attention to every detail. The price was good too! They also cleaned the area thoroughly and my property looks exquisite. Hire this company with confidence. "Nice family business. Had some trouble with some employees getting started but Costas and his dad always took over and made sure everything was great. They did most of the work themselves which was important to me that someone was always on site. My schedule is crazy. Iâ m often not home and I trusted them to be here and get the job done without my oversight. We ran into some challenges, even added a few more jobs to the project. He took in stride, eager for the work and honest and upfront about what he could do what needed to be done? I enjoyed working with him, so Iâ m giving him another project"

"Excellent professionalism! Very skilled, but willing to do many different “handy tasks” like curtain rods and hanging pictures. He easily put together small furniture from Amazon, but also does cabinetry, drywall, etc. I highly recommend Blake cleancut services!!"

Woodworking questions, answered by experts

General contractors use subcontractors to complete specific parts of a construction project. For example, a general contractor might have construction experience but need a subcontractor to install plumbing lines in a new home.

Joists do distribute their load to beams, but they don’t sit on top of the beams. Instead, home builders nail or screw the joists directly to the beams such that the end of the joist butts up against the edge of the beam. Beams can sit on other beams for support, but you’ll never see a joist sitting on top of a beam or another joist.

Building involves setting foundation posts, framing with durable wood, adding roofing support, and protecting from elements with water-resistant finishes.

Whether or not it’s easier to cut wood when it’s wet versus dry depends largely on the type of tool you use and the wood you’re cutting. For example, a chain saw should still be able to cut through wet wood with relative ease, but it may be more difficult to maneuver due to the wood fibers sticking to the chains of the saw.

However, you might want to avoid cutting wood entirely when it’s wet if you’re pruning your tree. Sawing a wet tree that you don’t plan on removing can also encourage bacterial and fungal growth and decay.

Wooden soffits, when properly cared for, can last between 10 and 25 years, depending on the type of wood and the climate you live in. Certain wood types will last longer than others, and you might want to consider the cost of replacing soffits when you break down the total project cost. While an initially higher-priced material might seem counterintuitive, it can make more financial sense if you don’t plan on moving.
