"What we thought was just a rotted door sill turned out to be a much bigger problem. Rot had reached below the sill and into the foundation boards. Brian walked us through every step of the process and kept us in the loop if any surprises arose. He answered any and all questions we had, and we had a lot! Brian was also great at being transparent about supply costs. The decks he rebuilt are amazing and beyond solid! One of the most important things to us was his professionalism. We’ve had a number of contractors do work for us over the years that did below average work and a few that my wife did not feel comfortable around. The amount of pride and quality Brian put into our home is amazing and the fact that he was so respectful to us as people is the reason we will keep having him back. My name is Nick, I've been in and out of the construction world for the better part of the last 15 years doing everything from footings, foundations, and flatwork concrete through finish carpentry and paint. I am well versed in vinyl flooring, tile, drywall, roofing and siding, interior or exterior paint, pest exclusion, remodel and renovation, framing, monoslabs and finish concrete, windows and doors, and many more. The easiest way to cut holes in drywall for electrical boxes is to use a spiral saw with a drywall router bit. Hang the drywall without cutting out a hole for the box, but make sure you measure and mark where the box is located on the wall. Once you screw in the drywall sheet, drill a small hole into the box void, insert the spiral saw bit, and move it around the edge of the box using the inside wall as a guide. You can also use an oscillating multi-tool with an electrical box cutout for fast, professional results.

There are a few easy ways to locate a wall stud without a stud finder. First, try knocking on the wall with your knuckles. Most parts of the wall will sound hollow, but when you tap over a stud, it will sound more solid. Alternatively, since studs are spaced 16 or 24 inches apart, you can measure those distances from a corner of the room, which will always have a stud.

It is more difficult to drywall a ceiling than it is to drywall a wall, but not so hard that DIYers can’t tackle it. One of the main issues with hanging drywall on your ceiling is getting it into place. Drywall isn’t light so, if you are hanging full drywall panels, you will need at least two (it’s better with more) people to hold the panel while you drill it into the ceiling as a single piece can weigh between 40 and 60 pounds and will need to be held in place for up to 10 minutes.

The time it takes for thinset to dry is determined by your room’s ambient temperature and humidity levels. Assuming the average humidity level is around 40% with an average temperature of 70 degrees Fahrenheit, thinset can dry within 48 hours. Lower temperatures and higher humidity can extend the curing process beyond 72 hours, while high heat and zero humidity can shorten the curing process. However, thinset can crack if it dries too fast.
