"Job started a day later than scheduled due to their equipment being down. Job was originally scheduled for 5-7 days. Job actually took 2 weeks and salesman called into the third week saying the job was done. We have never had mold remediation done before and was selling our house. The explanation of how the job would go was vague at best. This is not a process we are familiar with having never been through it before. In the estimate there was a blanket statement of “any construction materials removed will not be replaced” (once again we were never explained anything about this process in regards to things being removed). Upon the job being completed the buyer noticed there was no mention of insulation replacement. We were 2 days from closing and had to hire someone to replace the insulation. The handyman hired to replace the insulation noticed other items had been removed by octagon. We were not left a list of items removed from the residence. I was just told by Matt Brown that “that’s why I gave you a referral of a weatherization company” for 8300$ one would think you might get a verbal explanation of items needing replacement or at least an itemized list. Hope we don’t need to go through this again because as Octagon will not be contacted again."

"Roberto was the technician and he was very professional, polite, and personable. He inspected the rest of our system and told us things that needed to be changed or repaired. He showed me pictures of everything. Everything he told me about was accurate. He quoted me a price for R38 insulation , Some of our ducts were plastic and he recommended them to be changed. I agreed completely and didn't know they were plastic. I would have had them done the work but I had no price comparisons to make and besides I didn't have the money right then. So he just finished the vent cleaning and left his card. He did a great job on the vent cleaning and was happy with the work."

"Bob was on time, effecient, and honest. I thought I needed more insulation in the attic but he said I had 11" and that was excellent. He could have recommended that he add more, but he didn't and I appreciate that!"

"My wife and I bought the worst house on the block - literally, a house from h***, whose owners hadn't maintained it in 20 years - and NE Renovations has transformed it into the nicest house on the block. Richard and his NE team have literally done everything - new exterior walls, new interior walls, plumbing, heating, electrical, hardwood floors, all new plumbing & heating, windows, custom kitchen & bath, cathedral ceilings, roof, gutters, all new plaster & paint, not drywall like other contractors use and even a new basement remodel where we entertain our friends now. Not only did NE renovations build everything on time and on budget, but he also let us know if they found any unanticipated problems that would cause changes in timeline or budget so that we could make a decision in advance as to whether we wanted to make this change or not. Richard always gave us different alternatives to any situation, and gave us terrific advice as to which approach he would take. Unbelievably, he also threw in a range of items (be the extra cedar for our master closet or extra sheer walls even when the structural engineer didn't put this on the structural plan) at NO COST to us. I have never heard of another contractor doing something like that. Richard also took care of all the permit issues and with their great track record of doing work in the city of Newport they never had one violation and the project moved smoothly. Before I hired NE Renovations, we checked references: Richard gave us 10 numbers, I spoke with 7 (who were all glowing), and then 2 more took the time to call us back to provide references. That means a lot to us - and now that we've worked with the guys at NE Renovations we understand exactly why. Richard and his men are a man of their word, NE Renovations is experienced, reliable, and drama-free. We have already recommended them to our friends who also love them as much as we do, and we would definitely use NE Renovations services in the future, with out a doubt. I hope you use him too. This was the best $85,000.00 we ever spent!!"

Drywall Insulation questions, answered by experts

It doesn’t matter which way you lay drywall, and you can choose to install it horizontally or vertically depending on the size of the wall and how tall the ceiling is. It’s easier to lay drywall sheets vertically if you have a taller ceiling, but laying sheets horizontally makes it easier to apply joint compound.

A jigsaw is commonly used to cut holes in drywall. It offers versatility and precision, making it suitable for creating circular or irregular openings. When equipped with the right blade, a jigsaw can swiftly and cleanly cut through drywall, making it a good choice for DIY projects.

Applying plaster to a wall will usually cost between $2 and $10 per square foot for both the material and labor. The cost will vary based on the quality of the plaster you’re using and whether or not prep work is required before the work begins. Wall prep can add up to about 10% to your total costs. Plastering exterior walls can be more expensive in many cases because they are taller and require scaffolding and safety equipment.

The easiest way to cut holes in drywall for electrical boxes is to use a spiral saw with a drywall router bit. Hang the drywall without cutting out a hole for the box, but make sure you measure and mark where the box is located on the wall. Once you screw in the drywall sheet, drill a small hole into the box void, insert the spiral saw bit, and move it around the edge of the box using the inside wall as a guide. You can also use an oscillating multi-tool with an electrical box cutout for fast, professional results.

Yes, you can speed up the time it takes for plaster to dry, but it's important to do so carefully to avoid issues like cracking or crumbling. Proper ventilation is key; open a window or use a fan to circulate air in the room. Heat can also accelerate drying, but be cautious, as too much heat can cause the plaster to dry too quickly and crack. Check the plaster's packaging for the recommended drying temperature and set the room's thermostat accordingly. While managing humidity is important, avoid using a dehumidifier, which can remove moisture too aggressively and result in crumbly plaster.
