"Very friendly tech came to examine our house. He was really late, but this did not matter - lost his way. The cost was way beyond what we are willing to pay for pest control (over $1000) but we do have a fairly problematic carpenter bee problem."

Fleas are master hiders, so they’re always looking for safe spots. In addition to living directly on your pets, they’re likely to hide in bedding materials, not unlike the infamous bed bugs. They also like carpet and thick grass, for similar reasons. They’re more likely to hang around dirt and debris in general, which is why it’s important to keep the home clean. 

Since fleas are so tiny, the best way to find them is with a very thorough search. Focus on two specific areas. First, look where your pets spend lots of time sleeping or playing, which is where fleas are likely to linger. Second, look at ground-level fabrics like carpet, furniture upholstery and similar spots where it’s easy for fleas to hide. While you’re probably worried about fleas inside your home, it’s a good idea to check outdoors around patios or outdoor chairs to see if fleas are congregating in specific spots. 

Cleaning your home after discovering fleas is an all-day job, but this may not be the last you see of them. Some fleas are resistant to initial treatments and may lay eggs that will hatch after your first pass. Continue with treatments for one to two months to fully eradicate them.

Badgers have a strong sense of smell, so it’s possible you can deter them with strong scents, such as applying citronella oil to the bottom of your fence, adding crushed scotch bonnet peppers sprinkled throughout your garden, or mixing both of these into a solution to spray around your home and garden.

Dawn detergent does much more than clean germs on your dishes. It can also help remove flea eggs from your pet. Give your pet a bath using a few squirts of Dawn in warm water—be sure to keep it away from their eyes—to wash away those flea eggs. Note that Dawn doesn’t actually kill the eggs, nor can it help you with any eggs that have already fallen off your pet and taken up residence in your household, though.
