"Banyon was very professional. I called him up because I needed drywall installed in two bedrooms and my living room. He insulated, finished and painted the drywall in about 32 hours and it was only $3750!!"

"Kaydn repaired water damage in the ceiling. Sheetrock was replaced and it looks great. We really like doing business with Kaydn. He's polite, does what he says he's going to do, and was able to do the work quickly. We will continue to use him for other work."

"We hired Mike to work on some of our ceilings - he removed tiled squares and put in drywall, smoothed out an old plaster ceiling and did patch work on another. We felt that he was honest, reasonable and personable! The thing we liked most about Mike was that he provided his insight, but was still willing to try the project we had in mind even though there were many unknowns. Our project did not work out as we did encounter some structural limitations - he kindly backtracked and finish off the work with clean smooth results. Lastly Mike was easy to work with, good communication and flexible scheduling! We would definitely consider him for other projects around the home."

"We contacted Devoe Drywall to do drywall overlay in the upstairs of our 200 year old farmhouse. They did an amazing job squaring off all the walls and ceilings around the existing horsehair plaster. They were honest and communicative with the quote and what they were able to do and completed the project in a timely manner. They even let us use some of their staging/ ladder to paint the stairway when the project was finished. Everything painted up well with no issues. Definitely recommended them for all drywalling needs."

"From the initial submission to the HomeAdvisor app It only took Ken less than 1/2 hour to call . He showed up 1 hour later to provide an estimate and scheduled the job within 3 days. Not only did they have a quick turnaround but I was also very comfortable not being there. The crew is very trustworthy. The project ( patching the drywall and painting came out awesome ) The Iâ  ll be hiring them again for stage 2 of my project."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

How you hang the drywall can affect the finishing process. It's often easier to finish horizontal drywall panels, as the seams run across the wall rather than up and down. Standard drywall panels are 48 inches wide, so the seam is easy to reach without bending down or stretching your arms.

Drywall is safe to cut as long as you follow proper procedures, such as wearing personal protective equipment and using the right tools to score and cut the drywall. When cutting new drywall, it can release dust with silica and other compounds that could pose health risks. Leave cutting drywall to the pros, or wear a high-quality respiratory mask, goggles, and other PPE when handling drywall.

You should stagger drywall sheets to help prevent cracking. The joints between drywall sheets are the weak spots, so if you install drywall with seams aligned, you’ll create weak lines that run across the length of the wall and extend from floor to ceiling. But when you stagger drywall, the solid sections of panels will support the joints. This can prevent seams from cracking or separating due to fluctuating temperature and humidity, vibrations from movement inside the home, and gravity.

Plastering and skimming are two different techniques for finishing walls. Plastering involves applying a thick layer of a plaster mixture—typically containing gypsum, lime, cement, sand, and water—to create a new surface. This process often requires multiple coats and is used for repairing significant damage or creating decorative textures. Skimming, on the other hand, is a technique that involves applying a thin layer of drywall compound or joint compound over an existing surface to smooth it out, covering minor imperfections, small cracks, or uneven textures for a polished look. Plastering is generally more costly and labor-intensive than skimming. Although some people use the terms interchangeably, they refer to different processes and materials.

Water-damaged drywall should almost always be replaced. Not only does it look bad, it’s a breeding ground for toxic mold. Even if you think the area is dry and there’s no active leak, the only way to be sure is to cut out the damaged area and see for yourself.
