Concrete countertops can last a lifetime with proper maintenance. That includes regular resealing, waxing, and repairing any chips or cracks. At a minimum, they should last 20 years before major issues occur or performance drastically declines. The longevity of concrete countertops is a major reason people add them to their kitchens. You have different options depending on the scale of repair needed. If you are repairing minor cracks that are between ¼ inch to 1.5 inch wide and less than half an inch deep, a self-leveling polyurethane sealant would be your best choice. Polyurethane sealants dry to the touch within one to two hours. Since they come in a tube applier, you also have the option to complete the repair without emptying out your garage.

Clean with a damp mop and reseal every few years to protect the surface and enhance appearance.

Although some concrete cracks are cosmetic, others can be more serious. Cracks wider than ⅛ inch or that extend through the slab are serious and can cause structural damage. If you notice these types of cracks in your concrete patio, contact a local contractor who installs concrete patios to inspect the damage and determine how to fix it.
