The best time to aerate a lawn is when there's plenty of moisture in the soil, which is the fall or spring seasons. However, keep in mind that lawn aeration isn't very effective when there has been a long period of heavy rain, as the excess water can potentially damage the lawn in the aeration process. If you’re paying a professional to aerate your lawn, it’ll cost you an additional $50 to $80 on average to reseed it  in the same trip. Reseeding a lawn yourself can cost between $500 to $1,000, meaning you’ll probably save time and money hiring a professional service.
