Bay State Bulkhead
About us
Having been in business over 30 years, we are known as the cellar door company to call when you have a problem. If your bulkhead is leaking, rotting, or broken, give us a call right away. The longer you wait, the more it takes to repair or replace your bulkhead. Every one of our jobs is finished before we move onto another job. Most bulkhead repairs and replacements can be done in about a day's time. We pride ourselves on making sure each job is done right the first time. With our integrity of work, you will have a new bulkhead lasting you several years to come. Additional DBA - Richard O'Brien Construction. Additional contact name - Jillian O'brien. Here's the good points:
* we have a new bulkhead and it looks like it was installed correctly
(yes, there is only 1 good point)
* they covered a significant amount of the old debris under a 1/4 inch of soil which will no longer be able to support a lawn
* destroyed about 80% of our yard
* damaged the neighbor's driveway (the crane had to come down her driveway) - they did patch it
* broke our hardwired smoke/carbon monoxide detector because of the amount of dust in the air
* they damaged the alarm system to the new door
* our basement is covered in dirt
Although the bulkhead replacement itself went well we now have to spend money to:
* remove the construction debris buried in our yard
* bring in new topsoil and reseed the lawn
* have our alarm company repair the alarm
* have an electrician replace the broken smoke/carbon monoxide detector
* days of cleaning the dust out of the basement
Whatever he quotes you, add a significant amount of money on top of that to undo the damage that his crew will do.
The worst part is that we called to explain our concerns. He didn't want to listen and when we told him we were going to give a bad review on Angie's List he said, "I don't give a s***." and hung up the phone.
responsiveness and thoughtfulness that seemed to go into the work product was worth the amount we paid, and I have no doubt the new bulkhead will last. The only reason I did not give full "A's" across the board was that the project took 4 (instead of 2) days to complete and the guys typicall did not show up until at least noon - though my understanding was that one of the day's was lost to a truck breakdown. Also, there was a fair amount of concrete "pebbles" left in our grassy back-yard, which I've had to spend time to remove so as to not damage our mower. Regardless of these 2 minor inconveniences, I'd fully recommend Bay State Bulkhead.
"The original bid was over a year old and not easily accessible . I don't understand how you can say we were in a rush. All of our Dig out projects take one day to complete. Yes we did squeeze you in to our schedule as soon as we could at your request . All the contracts that I have ever written for a dig out project explain that our heavy equipment does not hover in midair and that all though we try our very best not to damage any part of your lawn or shrubbery sometimes damage can be expected. Also our crane Is 12 feet tall and rather than cut any low hanging branches we try to pull them back out of the way, consequently they may suffer a little scaring we feel that it is better than removing them.We also specify a rough grading around the new bulkhead ."
