Thank you for visiting Archadeck of Central Maine, the leading outdoor living space builder in the Bangor, Augusta, and Waterville areas. We're known for creating additions that seamlessly work into the existing design of your property, building new structures that looks as if they were always part of our clients' homes. We're proud to say we don't offer a catalog full of ready-made decks, patios, pergolas, outdoor kitchens, and more, nor do we charge by the square foot. Every design is one-of-a-kind and custom made for our clients.

"I highly recommend Archadeck of Central Maine. The carpenter, Garret, except for a few hours on the first carpentry day and the entire last day, worked on this by himself. He did a phenomenal job! On the last day he was joined by Preston and he did a great job as well. This project had some unique elements. First, was the slope of the ground. Second, was the design. The lower deck was designed to hold a hot tub (not shown here) to be accessed from the upper deck in the area between the two railings. One whole side of the upper deck remained without a railing as I wanted deck access to be at any point along the footpath. It'll be my task to backfill the gap between the deck surface and the footpath. Total number of days worked on this project was six (6). TJ and Jessi are easy to work with and the cost was very reasonable. We are THRILLED with the results!!"

From fixing leaky faucets to tackling big renovation projects, Jimmy does it all. He's your go-to guy for all types of residential jobs, and even takes on some light commercial work. With reasonable prices and a positive attitude, you'll be glad you called the guy that fixes everything. He can't get your brother-in-law to move out, but he can fix nearly everything else.

Holsom Midcoast is here to help with any of your construction needs. We are equipped to provide are customers with full housing renovations to building custom sheds and bathrooms.

"These guys were very skilled and thorough in their workmanship. We had a nice give and take with them about the best design details for our kitchen. Unexpectedly we learned that our outside walls are basically styrofoam with very few studs. They were able to resolve this construction problem creatively. Although the cabinet design from Home Depot was inaccurate, they were able to adjust that design so that we could use the cabinets which had already been purchased. We will definitely be hiring them for future work."

"I signed a contract to have my roof replaced and have brickwork done. The roof was installed in January 2020. In August 2023, the interior ceiling had water stains. In December 2023, I received the following information from a roofing professional "i checked the whole roof over today. I removed and sealed 27 nails. The roofer did not install a single starter shingle anywhere on the roof. It looks like he made every installation mistake a roofer could make, from nail count, nail placement and nail depth to incorrect installation of the drip edge, the ice and water shield, and the flashings around the chimneys, skylights and the vent pipes. There are sections that should be ripped off and replaced immediately and there are sections that need to be tested with a garden hose. It's one of the worst roof jobs I've seen in 20 years. It's amateur hour up there. If you have the option to sue him, i would. The way he installed the roof is causing your siding and soffits to decay prematurely. The siding is all wet on the back side on the gable ends. I don't have anything positive to tell you about the roof. If there's a hurricane and your roofing blows off or leaks, the insurance company will most likely deny any claims if they see what i had to deal with this week." The roof was installed in January 2020 in 10-degree weather even though the contract specified that the work should be completed in November 2019. The property was littered with shingles and nails. I had to clean up the mess. Roserock did not do the brickwork per the terms of the contract because Roserock said the costs went up. I had to pay someone else to do the brickwork at a higher price. Numerous terms of the contract were breached."

"Electrical and plumbing were subcontracted and I have no complaint on their work. However for the work this contractor performed.....It started out okay, complimented his work... But by the time the last of the porch repair and the bathroom reno was completed I realised I had made a huge error of judgement. He insisted in starting the porch work in the fall and then over the winter. When the ground thawed in the spring and the supports no longer met the concrete footing blocks, he used rigid foam boards to shim the concrete blocks up to meet the posts. The floorboards had been removed and proper footings could have been sunk below the frost line, instead it had to be jury rigged and as the ground heave sin the winter and thaws back down, I expect it to be only a matter of time before the folly of this becomes apparent and I will have to get a competent contractor in to fix it. The bathroom was to have a radiant heat floor put in, but the system installed is not meant to be used in a wet room. There is baseboard heat with a pipe running through the floor and that was "sealed" with a piece of moulding and if there is any problem with the heater or the pipe breaks it is harder to get to, nevermind just being able to clean it. I was concerned over the floor system and he promised me that a letter would be coming from the manufacturer saying the system was safe as installed. I spoke to a company rep and they cannot sign off on an installation that they did not witness. So I am unable to recommend this contractor based on any sense I have of his integrity. I am back to using a space heater and When I am able to I will have to have the floor taken up and the correct system put in. There are numerous other minor things, such as the laminate floor being laid with no regard to the pattern on the boards so the same pattern piece was used 3 times next to each other. I did look up how to install this type of floor and found plenty of instructive videos saying how the boards are usually separated by pattern and then laid down in such a way to be random and give the illusion of real wood. The result on my floor does not demonstrate to me an attention to detail. The light over the shower, an upgraded ceiling fan, an additional outlet or two were all part of the plan but were never installed. There were assertions like a new outlet would have cost $400. I checked with the electrician myself and was told that was not the price they would charge and did not understand why that would have been quoted. When issues were raised it was mentioned that he had a lien on someone's house who didn't want to pay for their finished projects. So, there is a lot of work to redo and since the money isn't there I will have to live with things as they are for a while. Not the result I was expecting after 6 months (way beyond the estimated time) of work having been done and at no small expense. I will try to post photos to illustrate what I have mentioned above."

Decks and Porches questions, answered by experts

You can either nail or screw deck boards according to your preference. We recommend using 3-inch galvanized deck screws in this guide because screws offer superior holding powder over time. If you’re using screws, you can minimize the risk of cracking the boards by drilling small pilot holes before securing the boards to the deck joists.

Any wood deck provides some ventilation to the area below, as is the nature of that type of deck design. However, areas that experience excessive humidity and associated moisture benefit greatly from a dedicated ventilation system in the form of strip vents. This addition helps the various wood boards contract and expand evenly throughout the years and reduces the chances of twisting, warping, and buckling.

A porch roof will be prone to leaking if it suffers damage from extreme weather events, or if it was improperly installed and waterproofed from the get-go. In some cases, a porch roof will be leaky simply because it's at the end of its lifespan and needs to be replaced. Proper maintenance and promptly repairing damage from high winds and hail will help keep your porch roof from leaking.

Although composite decking is extremely durable, it’s also susceptible to extreme heat. Prolonged exposure to sunlight can cause fading, warping, and cracking. Composite also retains heat more than wood, which makes it dangerous to walk on in the summer. You can help prevent heat damage by only building with composite in shaded areas or using rugs to cover the hottest spots.

You can add a roof to most decks, but you need to have it inspected first. If your deck didn’t come with a roof initially, it may not be able to handle the weight without some structural changes. You can add additional supports to your existing deck to safely add a roof, and tying your deck’s roof to an exterior wall can help add some structural stability, but remember these aren’t DIY projects and need to be left to a pro.
