"We have hired him twice. We were thrilled with his work both times! In this last job, he repaired a large hump in our hardwood floor that came about due to moisture. He was able to pull up the boards, fix the subfloor, and then put the boards back and refinish the entire 15'8"' x 18'3" floor. Price was more than reasonable. Not every type of flooring is well suited to a wood stove. However, ceramic or stone tiles are good choices since they are durable, heat-resistant, and easy to clean. Softer flooring options, like carpet, could be damaged by the heat produced by a wood stove—or even create a fire hazard.

It is normal to glue carpet down, though it’s not the only or the most popular method of installing carpet. Modern techniques include tack strips and stretching the carpet, but you might still find glued carpet in older homes or a home with a DIY’d past. Removing a glued-down carpet will be harder compared to other methods of installation.

For rooms with an even number of feet (10 x 12, for example), you can technically just multiply them together to get the number of square feet in the room (10 feet x 12 feet = 120 sq. ft.). For irregularly shaped rooms or areas that aren’t even square feet, converting to inches will be your best bet for an accurate measurement.

Tile—specifically smaller, mosaic-style tiles—is the best type of flooring for building a walk-in shower base. Shower pans come with a threshold and sidewalls to contain the water, but tile can be set into the shower base. This creates a walk-in shower floor that gently slopes toward the drain to keep water from getting out and into the rest of the bathroom.
