"Omar and his crew did an incredible job working on our old 1960's house! The painting went great, the crew worked efficiently and effectively to clean up all of the chipping paint, redoing caulk, etc. There was quite a bit of trim that needed to be replaced all over the house, more than we originally had anticipated. This didn't phase Omar and his crew and he addressed all the required repairs quickly, leaving it better than when we started. We had vaguely described an idea for an entryway trim frame, and he pulled all the stops and made something better than we could have asked for. All the small additional work that he did to make the final fits and finishes to the job were very appreciated, from installing door hardware for us, light fixtures, and even suggesting power washing of our concrete surfaces (they needed it badly...). Their quote, and the additions due to the unexpected materials and work, were very reasonable and lower than every other quote we received. We were blown away at how Omar and his crew revitalized our house, and will be recommending S&S to our friends and family for any external painting or remodeling work."

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Signs of structural damage include foundation cracks, roof leaks, bouncy floors, crumbling concrete, and cracked or leaning chimneys. Structural damage can make itself apparent in various ways, and sometimes, there may not be obvious signs. Inspect your foundation and roof annually to stay ahead of potentially serious structural problems.

If nail pops in your drywall aren't fixed, there can be consequences to the structure of your home and the aesthetics of the room. Nail pops may loosen or weaken drywall and may be less effective at providing support and insulation, ultimately requiring more extensive repairs or replacement in the future. If not fixed, the blemish will become increasingly unsightly over time, potentially leading to further damage as raised areas easily catch on objects or clothing.

Modern brick houses are really stick-built homes with a brick facade for aesthetic purposes only, so most have framing. With genuine brick construction, most homeowners install furring strips over the interior of the brick and then install drywall over those strips to cover the brick wall, so they don’t have traditional framing.

Yes, joists are considered structural, as they support the flooring or roofing above them and help distribute the load to the beams, which, in turn, distribute that load to weight-bearing walls or foundational supports directly below them. Joists not only help distribute the load evenly to your beams, but they also provide direct support to the subfloor in flooring systems, which helps reduce creaking and the risk of uneven flooring.

Neglecting to repair or replace a sagging floor can expose you to the risk of injury and your home to serious structural damage. When sagging floors are caused by termites, water damage, or weak foundations, holding off on completing the work can lead to a more costly repair bill as the problem can worsen over time.
