"Technician phoned to say he was running late. When he arrived, I showed him the old lock (which was slipping) and the new lock I wanted installed. After several minutes he told me this was a very old lock (at least 30 years) he had not seen before. He had major difficulty removing the lock and eventually had to cut the knobs off with a grinder. It took about an hour to remove the old lock and some of the wood around the lock will have to be touched up. When the tech went to install the new lock he noticed the deadbolt was a lot shorter than the old deadbolt so the new lock could not be installed in the old location. He had to cut a second hole in the door to install the new lock. The new lock was fitted and worked. I was able to fill the old hole with the wood cutout from the new hole. I will have to seal and sand the filled hole. If I had any idea the old lock would have proved so resilient, I would have called a locksmith instead to repair the mechanism. "
