"They did a beautiful job repairing my brick walk. The work was done promptly and professionally. Even better, when I pointed out something that I wanted changed, they did so the same day. A contractor who stands behind their work and offers great customer service is worth their weight in gold!"

"Hi my experience with Precision Renovation (Stanley) was excellent. He answered all my questions and listened to my concerns. I already told him I will be calling on them again in the future as I have much more work to be done. Stanleys people skills were superb and he made the decision easy for me to choose his company for my point tuck work. The job was done very professional. I love the way my wall looks now. Thanks agian for your wonderful service. Bridgett"

"About 10 or 11 years ago, AC Paving installed a new asphalt driveway for us. Our original driveway was gravel and dirt. We were extremely please with the work and the price. The driveway has held up beautifully through the years, but it was looking like it needed sealant and we had a damaged area where water has frozen and thawed over and over. Today, AC Paving showed up at our home. They were in the neighborhood doing work and they remembered us from years ago. They immediately got to work and now we have a lovely, good as new drive. I highly recommend this company. They do good work, they clean up after themselves, and the owner is always on the job with his crew, seeing to every detail. We will always continue to call them when we need their services. Dawne Miller, Upper Marlboro"

Paving Services questions, answered by experts

Professional installers often include a deep layer of crushed gravel under permeable pavers to allow more runoff to soak through into the soil below. Many installations will include multiple layers of gravel, with coarser aggregate at the base and finer aggregate that sits on top of that bottom layer. Above the gravel, you’ll often find coarse sand that helps reduce paver shifting over time. Some permeable paver designs include a water collection system set into the gravel layer to route runoff to a safe area for disposal.

It takes recycled asphalt 48 hours to initially harden and up to 3 months to fully cure. It’s best to stay off of recycled asphalt for at least 48 hours, then you can walk or drive standard vehicles on it. Hold off on driving heavy trucks or equipment on it for at least 7 days. Allowing the surface to melt together and harden ensures that the surface stays durable and long-lasting.

If you wish to break up a cracked or broken paver for removal, you can use a hammer or mallet and a chisel to fragment the paver. As you’re working, be careful not to disturb surrounding pavers; the key is to work slowly and steadily and remove the broken pieces gently. You should also wear a mask and goggles to ensure that no dust gets into your eyes, nose, or mouth as you work.

Outdoor kitchens get wet and are sometimes next to pools. To avoid accidents, go with a non-slip material like concrete, brick, or rubber. Avoid materials like ceramic and porcelain, as they are known to be quite slippery. Wood and composite flooring can be slippery if untreated, so make sure to stain or finish these materials.

Asphalt and tarmac are not the same thing. Traditional tarmac, short for tarmacadam, uses tar as a binder to hold crushed stone together. Asphalt uses bitumen—a byproduct of crude oil—to bind aggregate. Though tarmac was once a go-to for roads, asphalt has become the modern standard. And these days, most surfaces referred to as “tarmac” are actually asphalt. So, while the names may overlap, the key distinction lies in the binder—tar for tarmac and bitumen for asphalt.
