"Ronal and his assistant did a great job. They were punctual, communicative, and did a beautiful job repairing our kitchen wall and installing a tile backsplash with hexagonal tiles, and leaving the area sparkling clean. Would definitely recommend."
"Everything went well initially. Countertop looked great. However, when I told the man in charge to remove the remainder off of my deck, he was obviously annoyed. I had told when he was taking it out that I only wanted ONE piece of the countertop left with me and showed him the piece I wanted. He had an obvious attitude and then went out to his truck and made me wait another 30 minutes to return to take it. They left a mess under the countertops (crumbled countertop, etc.) although they did sweep my floor. When I really looked at it afterwards, I notice that they cracked my backsplash and didn't tell me. Also, the plumber was great who came a couple of hours late, however, he told me the countertop crew had thrown away a part I needed to hook my garbage disposal back up so I had to give him $30 to replace it. Atila, the salesman/owner was wonderful during the sale process and very responsive. However, I was expecting a follow up call which didn't happen. The price was good for the work that was done."
"Josh, Tony, and Fabio of West Shore Home installed a new shower complete with glass doors, safety grab bars, and new fixtures in about 8 hours. This includes the tearing out of the old tile, tub, and fixtures"
"My backsplash is beautiful. Tony Heard, one of the owners of the company was professional and attentive to my specific requirements. The gentlemen who installed the backsplash, came in did their job, were very diligent and professional. I thought it would take a couple of days to complete, but it was done in one day. They cleaned up the debris and dust and made sure that I was happy. I am very satisfied with my completed project. I have even discussed future home projects that I could hire LFC for with Tony. The cost for this project was very reasonable and worth it."
"We chose VKB mainly on its reviews on this website. Overall the experience was very positive. We were pleased to learn that VBK did not charge a fee upfront to design the kitchen. Calvin (kitchen designer) made excellent suggestions to improve our original vision and was responsive to changes to the design. Calvin convinced us to choose wood floor and crown molding, and the type of range hood, and he was right on all counts! Because of the smooth design process with Calvin and reasonable price, we decided to sign on with VBK over other companies. The implementation phase had some bumps: the design drawings that Jason (project manager) and Ismar (crew leader) started with were not the updated version, but thankfully that was quickly rectified. In addition there were some misunderstanding on the scope of the painting area, but Calvin agreed to honor what we had discussed verbally, even though it was not spelled out in the contract. Jason listened and patiently explained the project process, and kept asking to make sure that we were happy with the progress. For example, he agreed to redo the placement of the undercabinet lights. He also accommodated our desire to donate our old cabinets to Habitat for Humanity, and Ismar and his crew carefully took the down the cabinets and stored them in our garage for pickup later in the week. Ismar, Luis, and the rest of the crew did a fantastic job installing and painting everything, and their experience showed in disguising the fact that our walls were not straight and the floor was not even. We were also impressed with the laser tools that they used to guide cabinet and light placements. The crew was careful, meticulous, and respectful, and they cleaned up throughly every day. There were other crews handling the flooring and countertops, who also did top notch work, and all were coordinated like clockwork by Jason. Along the way, we learned some lessons and offer the following advice: if you are particular about the placement of your celling lights, electrical outlets and switches, let the crew know, and they will do their best to accommodate. Also, pay attention to every single detail in the contract; if not specified, there can be a misunderstanding, and a deviation may require a change order and extra expense. Overall, we were extremely pleased with the excellent quality of the work, and even though there was a delay in the backsplash order, the job finished as projected. We definitely recommend VKB, and we love our new kitchen. Jason -- we are happy!"
"We had new flooring installed in the basement of our home and couldn’t be happier with the results. From the initial consultation to the final installation, the entire process was smooth and professional. The team helped us choose the perfect flooring that matched both our style and budget.
The installers arrived on time, worked efficiently, and paid great attention to detail. They made sure everything was properly aligned and finished beautifully. The new floor looks incredible and have completely refreshed the look of our home.
If you’re considering new flooring, I highly recommend this company for their quality, professionalism, and excellent customer service."
"Overall, I had an outstanding experience with everyone from John Krause Construction. Their customer service was most impressive. They asked about and worked around my schedule, were all prompt, courteous and friendly, and showed a true desire to complete the work to my satisfaction. Their explanations of the work to be done and the time it would take were clear and accurate. They started the work in less than a week after I signed the contract, and completed it in a week. This was well beyond my expectations since a lot needed to be done, including drywall repair and painting some hard to reach areas, shingle repair, gutter cleaning, and concrete step repair. Their cost estimate was competitive and fair. There were a couple hiccups along the way, including matching the interior paint color and trouble with installing a door handle, but everything worked out ok. I would certainly hire them again for any general home repairs/improvements."
"Devin Nasvaderani of Marvel Homes rebuilt my small bathroom from subfloor to ceiling. Water had leaked down through the subfloor into the dining room downstairs, so the entire bathroom had to be rebuilt. I took several months to talk to a number of contractors, and I am very glad I got Devin. Devin listened carefully to what I wanted, making suggestions as requested but never trying to ?upsell? me. As an old budget officer, I was determined to make sure there were no surprises at the end, but not only was the work completed on time and on budget, but the extra items I ended up asking for were delivered at less than I had expected, and were done with the same excellent quality as the scope work. In some cases, Devin advised me strongly that some work the other contractors said would ?probably? be needed, was not needed. His ?allowances? for tile and plumbing were the only realistic such estimates I got from any contractor, and he passed on his contractor discount to me at the tile and plumbing shops, allowing me to build a very nice, quality bathroom at less than the originally estimated price point. The work quality was excellent, and his crew were professional, polite, clean and non disruptive. He managed to gain me several more inches inside the shower, put insulation against the outside wall that the original home builder had not bothered with, and generally fixed up all the weak points of the original bathroom. The bathroom, although small, is the ?master bathroom? so the crew had to go through my bedroom to access it. Each morning, they covered everything in my room with plastic, put tarps from the front door to the bathroom, and every evening removed everything and vacuumed, leaving my room absolutely clean each night. They were even fairly quiet, considering the nature of the work. (the hammering etc sounded ?precise? and methodical to my untrained ear, never just banging away.) So, my highest recommendations for this work. Michael P****** Forest Glen MD
Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts
The choice of whether to tile or use an acrylic tub surround is up to you and can be based on a number of factors, including aesthetics, cost, waterproofing, ease of cleaning, and maintenance.
Tile is a beautiful, classic bathtub surround choice; while tile installation cost is higher, it’s customizable and offers visual appeal. Tile is also harder to clean and presents waterproofing problems because of grout lines. Acrylic surrounds can be more affordable, don’t require much maintenance, and are easier to clean. However, they aren’t usually as visually appealing and may need to be replaced if they become damaged.
Glazed ceramic tiles don’t need to be sealed because the glazing already offers some protection against moisture. Unglazed ceramic tiles need to be sealed to keep the porous tile safe from moisture and staining. However, both types of tile can benefit from sealing. Sealant can make the tiles easier to keep clean and offer more resistance to water, spills, and stains.
When tiling over concrete, you should install an anti-fracture membrane after the concrete has been prepared. The anti-fracture membrane acts as a moisture barrier and should be installed to protect the tiles from moisture which helps maintain their integrity. Often, Ditra, a brand name, is used interchangeably with moisture barrier.
Most professional shower tile installations take between six and eight hours, depending on the size and complexity. Most projects get completed in a single workday. DIY-ing the project takes around three to four days or roughly 16 hours. However, this will vary based on the skill level of the person completing the work.
Per the International Code Council, walk-in shower floors should have a minimum slope of 1/4-inch per foot (or a 2% slope) towards the drain. The slope should be no steeper than 1/2-inch per foot (or a 4% slope). This helps safely direct water into the drain rather than all over your bathroom.
