"Our HVAC stopped working on a very, very hot Saturday afternoon during 4th of July weekend.  Having 3 kids under 5 who were grouchy and moody due to the heat didn't help. I waited to call till Monday morning  because we had just had some freon put into the unit about a month and half prior by a much bigger company. They advised that if it quit again, the freon may have a leak($$$$$). This company charged $200.00 for a half hour and didn't have half the class of this gentleman. So
I waited to call for help till Monday because I figured no one would come out on a holiday weekend. Boy was I wrong!

When I called, they man took my address, showed up at the home within 30 minutes and did an thorough diagnostic test. He found the problem and repaired it for only $220.00. Some kind of canister near the compressor was not working,  so his many years of experience allowed him to fix the problem quickly. We tipped him $15 for coming so soon, with a GREAT attitude/demeanor and FIXED the unit quickly!

Love this company. Don't hesitate to use them!!"

"Jim Farrell and North Alabama Technical Services rebuilt my computer and provided me with everything I expected and so much more.  He provided the various options in equipment, including specs and pricing, answered all our questions and helped us make the best decision for our purchases.  The computer was completed in a few days, far less than expected, the installation included clear directions for use.  The package also included a good warranty for the equipment.  I was extremely pleased with his service and would not hesitate to recommend his company to anyone with computer service needs."

"Had our 1st complete HVAC system installed on March 18th/19th. I must say that we received outstanding professional service. The technicians arrived 5-10 minutes early each morning to prep for the tasks @ hand. During Day 1, it was a windy cold day with torrential rain. Even with the inclement weather they mad sure that our gas furnace was completed before leaving for the day, to ensure we had heat. Day 2 they completed the air handler install in about a 1/2 a day. Was amazing of the quickness and quality of work that was performed in just a short period of time. I can't praise enough of how polite and courteous that both technicians were and answered any questions I had. We will definitely have Wicomico Heat & Air perform future PM services. Satisfied customer that highly recommends Wicomico Heat & Air. 5 out of 5 stars"

Install Boiler questions, answered by experts

If you go to turn it counterclockwise and it won’t turn anymore, it’s open. Like most other valves, you should be able to turn a radiator valve counterclockwise (to the left) to open it and clockwise (right) to close it. To close a radiator valve, turn it clockwise until you meet some resistance and can’t turn anymore, but do so carefully to avoid breaking the valve.

Hydronic and standard electric baseboard heaters differ in how they operate, their cost, and their performance. Standard convection heaters use electric coils to heat the air directly, while hydronic heaters warm a contained liquid like water or oil, which then radiates heat into the room.

In terms of cost and efficiency, hydronic heaters usually have a higher upfront price but are more energy-efficient and cheaper to run over time. This is because the heated liquid retains warmth, allowing the heater to continue providing heat for a while after the thermostat turns it off. In contrast, electric heaters provide heat more quickly but are less efficient.

Ultimately, the better choice depends on your priorities. If you need a room to heat up fast and have a lower initial budget, an electric heater might be suitable. If long-term energy savings are more important and you don't mind a slower heat-up time, a hydronic heater is likely the better option.

You can save money on heating oil through a combination of improving home efficiency and smart purchasing strategies.

Home Efficiency and Usage:

  • Improve Insulation: Ensure your home, especially the basement and attic, is well-insulated and sealed against drafts to prevent heat leakage.

  • Manage Your Thermostat: Use a properly calibrated and programmable thermostat. Lower the temperature by a few degrees, particularly when you are away from home or asleep.

Purchasing Strategies:

  • Buy in the Off-Season: Order heating oil during the summer months when prices are generally at their lowest. This strategy is most effective if you have a large primary tank or a separate storage tank to accommodate bulk deliveries.

  • Consider a Delivery Contract: Some companies offer contracts with a set price for the term. This can lead to savings if market prices for oil increase, but you might pay more if prices drop.

Many utility companies and government programs offer rebates or incentives for the installation of high-efficiency propane boilers. These can offset upfront costs and improve your return on investment. Check with your local utility or installer for current offers. Incentives vary by state and provider, so exploring regional programs can help maximize your savings.

Many HVAC companies offer free quotes and free estimates for repairs and new HVAC systems. Others offer low-cost quotes or apply the cost of the estimates or diagnostics to your final bill if you hire them. Be aware that some companies advertise free HVAC quotes and recoup the costs by charging more for their services. Free HVAC quotes are never truly free—they cost the company time and effort—so be a good customer. Also understand that you may end up paying for free quotes in another way if you don’t hire a reputable company.
