"Klaus, owner of Resolute Electric, showed up initially to complete the estimate. Klaus was on time, professional and left us feeling we chose the right guy for the job. Klaus provided an estimate within 24 hours, we scheduled the date of the installation and Klaus arrived exactly when he said he would be there. He was very knowledgeable about what needed to be done, did not hesitate to get started and completed installing the flood light in exactly the area we wanted and removed power to the base board heating at the junction box. The flood light needed to be hard wired and Klaus was nothing less than stellar from the moment we met him to the time he left after completing everything we requested. Resolute's pricing is very fair and anyone that uses Resolute will 100% be satisfied with the price and work performed."

"I converted an attic into a 1 bedroom apartment with private bath, kitchen and laundry area years ago and contracted Brandon Oakley to do all of the electrical work. The job was completed timely, professionally and without any issues. Since then his company, Legendary Services, has expanded its services to now include installing back up generator systems and solar systems for sustaining your electrical needs during power outages. I have discussed these options with him and he is very knowledgeable and I am considering installing one or both of these systems in my home. I trust his judgement and his work based on great past experience."

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

Homeowners can often access federal tax credits, such as the Investment Tax Credit (ITC), which covers a percentage of installation costs. Many states and utilities offer additional rebates, grants, or performance-based incentives. These programs can significantly lower your upfront investment. Check the Database of State Incentives for Renewables and Efficiency (DSIRE) or contact your local energy office for current offers.

An undersized whole-house generator has the potential to overheat and shut down when you try to run a central AC system. This scenario can not only damage the whole-house generator, but can also trip your home’s breakers or cause electrical damage. To avoid this situation, hire a local generator installer to correctly size your whole-house generator.

Costs depend on generator type, labor, and additional wiring or transfer switch requirements.

Yes, in most municipalities, you will need a permit to install a permanent home generator, including emergency backup, partial-home, and whole-home models. Because these installations involve significant alterations to your home's electrical system and produce exhaust fumes, local governments often require a permit or inspection for safety purposes. A generator permit typically costs between $50 and $250, depending on your location. Your electrician or certified installer can usually handle the permitting process for you, but you will be responsible for the cost. It's a good practice to confirm with your installer that they will pull all necessary permits before work begins.

In most municipalities, you will need a permit to install a permanent home generator, including emergency backup, partial-home, and whole-home generators. A permit for a generator usually costs between $50 and $250, depending on where you live. Your electrician or certified generator installer will usually pull the permit for you—and might be required to do so by your building department—but you’ll be on the hook for the cost of the permit. You should ask your installer before agreeing to any work if they will pull the necessary permits for your project.
