I browsed Angie's List the next morning and arranged for a visit the next morning by Charles Moon Plumbing (I have another toilet I could use). The plumber was prompt, very nice and helpful, presented 2 options for the repair, and performed the work quickly. Everything is still fine in September 2012. 
I bought a service contract that gives the customer 20% off on any work they do, including the work done that day. In retrospect, I would prefer not to have to commit to this company and for them to just use straight pricing without a service contract gimmick.
In April I phoned the company for an estimate to hook up my house to the newly installed county sewer system. The estimated price was much higher than the estimates from 2 other companies, even with the 20% discount. Bottom line: I will have Charles Moon do small jobs, but I'll have to go to a bigger company for large jobs.

Orbit's equipment is the most efficient, seems to be the best quality, and quite frankly had the best warranties. The installation went well. The installer removed old equipment and installed the new softener and filtration kit. He was in and out within the 3 hour time window specified. He answered all the questions I had for him during the installation. Once everything was done and cleaned up, he went through the operation with me, explaining how everything worked and what things to keep an eye on. Very good experience.
