"Dan was on time with both pick up and delivery, and was courteous and professional. He provided an incredible amount of fabric from which to choose. Both pieces were in rough shape and both now look new again! Great work. Real pride of craftsmanship. I would definitely use him in the future."

"Very well. The owner, Wilson Delgado, came from Silver Spring to Falls Church to pick up my furniture in his large SUV then returned the repaired furniture a week later. What made his work special to me is that when he arrived, he lifted and squeezed each piece of furniture so you could see that where the furniture was loose. Unfortunately, the chairs were loose all over. To ensure the tightness of the chairs going forward, he took each one apart to reglue every joint. For the large leather armchair, he secured and reattached the original piece of leather by taking the whole back off and putting a new border around the backing to ensure that the leather would adhere. Mr. Delgado is an artisan who made a career of working on high value furniture in the Catholic Church. My five pieces of furniture look new again, after 35 years. He is following up with an email on general care products and guidance."

"Conchita Short of Chita B Interiors was recommended by somebody in Warrenton, VA, who had done some re-upholstery work for us and we visited her premises while in the area to discuss what we were looking for. We had taken photos and arm covers from the upholstered chairs and sofa to show the colors. She took great care to help us find the right combination as well as style and then gave us an estimate.  Later she came to our home to take detail measurements and further refine the fabric color selection etc. It turned out that our first choice of fabric was not available from her supplier in the quantity needed - 33 yards. She then visited us again us with some additional swatches including some from a colleague from another business. She has a great eye for design and was most helpful to us we finalize the choice.
Once she received the fabric she visited again to double check the measurements.
Once she completed making the drapes etc., she and her husband, plus a friend due to the large dimensions, installed both the cornice board and the drapes in our home. This took about three hours.
Conchita is a perfectionist and takes great care to do first class work. She conveys the image  of always being willing to go the extra mile to get it right. She has a great eye for color and design and is a real treat to work with.
We are very happy with the result and would thoroughly recommend her if you want a thorough job that will please you for many years. To achieve this inevitably takes time and so she is not the right person if you want something super quick regardless of quality.

Upholstering questions, answered by experts

It is often worthwhile to refinish or restore furniture, especially for high-quality, older, antique, or sentimental pieces. Older furniture tends to have better durability than modern, mass-produced items, and refinishing can cost about one-third of the price of replacement. To determine if it's cost-effective, compare quotes from local refinishing services with the price of a new, similar piece. Refinishing can refresh a piece's look and extend its lifespan. However, it may not be worth it for newer furniture made of medium-density fiberboard (MDF) or plywood, or for items with major structural damage. A professional can help you assess the piece and decide on the best course of action.

Part of the beauty of academia decor is that most textures and materials will feel right at home, provided they’re dark. Some common textures include natural wood, dark metals like iron, velvet, and leather. Incorporating these into your dark academia decor will make them look right at home. Glass is another option in some cases, so fill in gaps in your decor with small glass jars, or really lean on the gothic roots of dark academia with stained glass.

To safeguard your furniture and upholstered items, it's best to use plastic wrap or specially-made plastic sofa covers. However, you should avoid wrapping wooden furniture in plastic if you plan on storing it, as plastic can trap moisture and warp the wood, plus it may damage certain finishes. In either case, old blankets or moving blankets make excellent alternatives. For protecting delicate glass table tops and mirrors, bubble wrap is always a reliable choice.

Reupholstering is often worthwhile for high-quality, antique, or sentimental couches, especially if the frame is sturdy. It can cost less than buying a comparable new piece and allows for customization, but may not be cost-effective for low-end furniture.

Paying to reupholster a piece of furniture means you want to hire the right upholstery service, especially for a piece that’s expensive or carries a lot of sentimental value. In your search for the right upholstery company, be sure to:

  • Ask around to see if friends or family know of any upholsterers

  • Find reviews of the company or individual

  • Look at the photo gallery of their work to see if they work on furniture like yours and if you like their work

  • Check qualifications and references

  • Ask the upholstery service if they work on furniture like yours, what their schedule looks like, how they handle payments, and how long the job will take
