Mature lilac bushes that are large and overgrown are more challenging to remove than small lilac bushes. Large lilac bushes have deeper roots that are more widespread, making it harder to dig them up and remove them. If you don’t dig under and around the primary roots, then you run the risk of the lilac bush growing back. So, it is a time-consuming process if done correctly. 

You kill ivy permanently by cutting it at the root and applying herbicide. You can also tear out ivy at the roots to remove it and apply herbicide as an extra measure. Covering the area with at least two inches thick of mulch or leaves can prevent future growth. Watch the area for any regrowth and kill regrowth immediately.

Tree removal can be quite expensive, especially for larger projects, but you can use the following tips to help keep costs down:

  • Do the yard cleanup afterward yourself

  • Choose to leave the logs on your property and split them yourself

  • Opt to leave the stump in the ground and tackle stump grinding yourself

  • Pull permits for tree removal, if necessary, to avoid fines

  • Pay to have multiple trees removed at once

  • Remove tree in the late winter or early spring during off-season

Stump grinding consists of removing the visible part of the stump, but the roots remain intact. Depending on the tree and root system, the roots may still grow after stump grinding. If you are concerned about root growth and damage, you may want to consider having a stump removed completely.
