"Matt is awesome. His company did my entire first floor. Demo'ed all the old flooring and installed new. We went with the ceramic tile planks that looks like hard wood. They did an awesome job. The floors looks beautiful and we could not be happier. Also, the job was done in March during the start of the pandemic, but Matt and his crew showed up everyday and completed the job with meticulous precision. "Calabe and team were great to work with. I had the tile already on site and they were able to slot me in quickly. He had great ideas and did a great job. Just over a week from start to finish. Removed a tub and old tile. Created a custom walk in shower. Replaced the flooring in the remainder of the room and replaced the vanity and toilet with new updated ones. His team and the plumber he brought in were great."

"Ornel and Al did a great job and I am very pleased with the outcome. The tile was placed too closely to the electrical outlets and someone had to use a dremel to file the tile so the outlets could be installed, which was a pain. Ornel installed a 3 mural tile over my stove and took great care with the spacing and placement of that. I would hire them again!"

The best trowel for penny tile is a 3/16-inch-by-5/32-inch V-notch trowel. Because of the small size of the penny tile, you want a trowel with small notches that can lay a thin layer of mortar on the surface you’re tiling. If the notches are too wide, you risk applying too thick of a layer of mortar, and it can squeeze out between the penny tiles.

Tiles last for around 100 years or more. Tiles on backsplashes can last even longer since they’re less likely to crack under foot traffic or from accidental drops, but even tile in high-traffic flooring can last a century or more with proper installation and upkeep. Porcelain tiles are denser and stronger than standard ceramic tiles, so they’ll last longer, often pushing past the 100-year mark.

You can technically install tile over tile, but we don’t suggest it. Installing tile over any surface that isn’t a completely flat and prepared subfloor will result in a shoddy overall job, uneven flooring, tiles that don’t adhere, extra weight, gaps, cracks, and room for moisture and dirt to enter. For the best results, only install new tile on a flat, sanded surface like subflooring or concrete that is prepared for tile.

If you have asbestos tile and would rather tile over it than remove it, or if your existing tile is completely flat and bonded tightly to the floor, you may be able to tile over existing tile. But experts recommend thinking twice before you do.

When choosing tiles for a shower floor, avoid highly porous tile materials, like those with a water absorption rating over 7%. Don’t use non-vitreous tiles, or tiles fired at low temperatures, because they will absorb more water. If you use a highly porous tile in the shower, the tiles can wear down faster, meaning they’ll need to be replaced much sooner.

Bathrooms are naturally moisture-rich environments, so choose a durable, water-resistant tile for your tub surround. Porcelain and ceramic are two popular options that are also quite affordable. Glass is another good option that’s also low-maintenance—you just need a glass cleaner like you would use on the bathroom mirror. Natural stone tile is porous, but it’s still a viable option if you choose it in a glazed version.
