"Got my driveway seal-coated. Denise promptly came by within days of posting the project. She was thorough and gave me a really good price. Jackie at the office was excellent with communication and coordinating the schedule. Steven came and did the sealcoat by hand using a squeegee (perfect way to get a good sealcoat) with 2 crew members. My driveway looks fantastic! Overall it was a perfect price; perfect communication and perfect workmanship. Thank you!"

"I’ve needed my driveway sealed for a couple Of years. I had estimates but had difficulty scheduling anyone to come out. I came home from work one day to a flyer from Armor Sealcoating. I sent a text and heard back from Justin soon after. Before you know it I had a beautiful driveway all within the same week. Justin is professional , efficient and a pleasure to deal with. Thank you Justin ! I had a great experience working with Justin and Armor Sealcoating. I can confidently recommend them if you’re looking to have your driveway sealed."

Customers say: Quick response

"Josh was great from the start. Very responsive to my texts, emails and calls. He took the time to explain and show me exactly what he was going to do and how he was going to do it. He and his guys came here to dig out the driveway, lay down and compact the gravel. We also asked him to run a pipe under the driveway out to the side of where the driveway ends so that rainwater from the gutter wouldn't sit right in front of our garage door and freeze in the winter. He was able to do this without any issues. He came back a few days later to complete the job and lay down the asphalt. Everything looks great and we are very happy with our choice to go with Dejesus Driveways. Thanks again!"

Customers say: Quality work

"Great company! Showed up on time. Got the job done quickly and efficiently. I did have to sweep the driveway afterwards, but they had shoveled off all dirt/stone that was piled there). I was really impressed that one of the crew filled me in on each step and feel they have excellent communication, as I like to know and be shown what is going on step-by-step and not many workers do that. I will use them again should I need work. I will recommend them to others."

Driveway Sealcoating questions, answered by experts

Sealcoating asphalt costs $0.14 to $0.25 per square foot. Doing so prevents erosion in harsh weather and keeps your asphalt from cracking or getting potholes. It’s a good idea to hire a professional sealcoating company with positive reviews to do this work rather than do it yourself.

While blacktop is a type of asphalt, the terms should not be used interchangeably, as not all asphalt qualifies as blacktop. The primary differences are in their composition, production process, and ideal applications. Blacktop contains more stone than other types of asphalt and is heated to a higher temperature during production—300°F or more—while hot-mix asphalt is heated to between 275°F and 300°F. The ratio of bitumen (a tar-like crude oil) is a key differentiator, though sources vary: some state blacktop has less bitumen, making it less durable, while others claim it has a higher ratio. Due to these differences, asphalt is generally more durable and better for high-traffic areas like highways and streets, while blacktop is more suitable for playgrounds and residential driveways. For a driveway project, it is best to consult a professional to determine the most appropriate material.

When hiring an asphalt paving contractor to install your driveway, ask as many questions up front as possible. Here are a few questions to ask a prospective driveway contractor:

  • How many years of experience do you have?

  • Are you licensed, bonded, and insured?

  • Do you have worker’s compensation?

  • Do you use subcontractors on your projects?

  • Do you clean up after the job is done?

  • Who is responsible for any damage to lawn or landscaping?

  • Do you provide a guarantee or warranty on your work?

  • Do you give free estimates?

  • What is the timeline for completion?

  • How do you handle change orders?

  • Can you provide at least three references?

  • Can I see some of the work you’ve done?

Though they may look similar, tar and bitumen come from different sources. Bitumen is a petroleum product—extracted during crude oil refining—and is mostly made up of hydrocarbons. Tar comes from burning down organic materials like coal or wood. Bitumen is strictly oil-based, while tar is a mix of compounds from natural sources. Both are used as binders in paving; however, bitumen is the standard for today’s asphalt. Tar use has mostly faded out of road construction.

You don't technically need to seal your driveway after pressure washing, but doing so will help keep your driveway clean for longer. The best driveway sealer depends on the type of driveway you have. To seal asphalt, consider an asphalt emulsion sealer, fast-drying sealer, or latex acrylic sealer. Concrete driveways commonly use acrylic sealers or penetrating sealers.
