Small jobs welcome

"After several initial meetings with Shawn to discuss our deck re-build/expansion project we decided to hire him for the job. Shawn was very easy to deal with in providing information, returning phone calls, and following through on what he promised. Any slight issues that arose were handled immediately, professionally, and with very good customer service. He and his crew were on time and cleaned up thoroughly each day. The finished job was top notch and even the local building inspector remarked on the quality of work. We have already hired him for a window replacement job, and we would highly recommend him to anyone who has a home project."

"We could not be happier with the work that was done. Brian and his crew showed up when he said they would and were professional, polite and courteous at all times. They kept things as neat as possible while they were working. Their work was impeccable and we could not find one thing to be dissatisfied with. Brian gave us a quote for the job, working within our budget, and it was exactly what we paid in the end. We would not hesitate to hire Morse Builders again for anything and will be recommending him to all of our friends, family and neighbors. We will certainly be enjoying our beautiful deck for many years to come!! Thank you Brian!"

"Gabe does excellent work.  His prep work is exceptional.  His painters are fully and well trained; they do great work.  My house has four different colors and some decorative trim.  They could handle all the details with no problem.  My house is also very tall with a significantly pitched roof.  Again, Gabe's painters could handle it.  Additionally, the painters clean up the work area each day, they are quiet and courteous, and they work long days.
Gabe painted our entire house in 2006.  He came back to power wash it for us in 2010.  The paint job is holding up very well (and our house is 100 years old so the clapboards have seen better days).  Gabe's most recent work was on new siding that is part of a renovation.  It all looks excellent.  He blended the old and new areas together very well.

"Barn Rescue – My barn was hit by a vehicle, which broke a large post and pushed section of siding out from under the roofline, plus major damage at ground level. Brad shored it up for the winter with an array of jacks and an enormous chain to ensure the thing wouldn’t fall down till they could return in the spring. Come spring, they fully replaced the damaged section’s support members and facade, and added bracing to the attic, rendering it stronger than before. Foundation support: The sagging beams and jerry-rigged support columns in the dirt basement of our 18th century house were inadequate. They dug and poured a dozen footings and lally columns, supporting a line of new 6x6 and 9x9 beams that provide solid support to the house above. They showed up promptly every day, worked fast, and left the site clean and finished. Both Brad and Chad have a deep knowledge about old houses and the techniques that were used, and I felt my historic register property was in good hands."

"Eddie, Simon, and one crew member completed the stonewall repair efficiently and professionally in about six hours. (A job that would have taken me more like six weeks had I tackled it myself!) I primarily dealt with Simon, who was affable and easy to work with. He showed up as scheduled, both to quote and perform the work. As other reviewers have noted, communication was primarily through text message--no written quote, no contract. Those who desire a paper trail could perhaps retain their texts, but I don't think the lack of documentation would be an issue, as Simon seems to be a stand-up guy. The stonewall had collapsed in one area and was teetering in another. Simon & team knocked it down and build it back using the existing stone--which was a significant cost savings compared to buying new materials. The wall looks better and sturdier than it has in years. The team also went above and beyond the quoted scope of work. They filled in a pothole in my driveway with leftover gravel and mortar. And they spread some extra crushed stone around the garden walkways. This was an completely unexpected and welcome bonus, and indicative of Eddie & Simon's approach to delivering value to their customers. My only concern was over the somewhat uneven quality of the work. As shown in the photos, in some areas the mortar is smooth and tidy and in others, more coarse and sloppy. (Perhaps due to different workers working on different sections?) This is not a huge issue as this is a rough-hewn wall that already had a rustic feel. I might apply a bit more mortar in certain spots, but overall, I'm highly satisfied with the outcome. The cost was $1400, exactly as quoted and less than other quotes I had received. I gave the trio a $100 tip to split (even though I have read that you generally don't tip a business owner)."

"We loved our handyman Shane because he was so good at keeping in touch with us about our project right from the beginning. He was a hard worker and did a great job installing railings on our patio steps. I would hire him again in a second."

Pole Barn Builders questions, answered by experts

Whether pole barn posts should be set in concrete depends on the soil surrounding your home. If your soil is compact and digging conditions are agreeable, then setting pole barn posts in concrete is an ideal option.

Whether a prefab home is worth it or not will depend on your personal needs and preferences. Overall, prefab homes tend to cost less than traditional homes, although they also tend to have lower resale values. Another thing to consider is that prefab homes usually last 50 to 60 years or longer, while traditional homes last 50 to 100 years or more.

Pole barns and carports are similar in that they rely on posts for support and are often not connected to a primary structure. The main difference between the two is that pole barns usually include walls that surround the entire perimeter of the structure, while carports generally remain open on three or four sides. It’s possible to insulate garage doors and even exterior walls on pole barns to create a comfortable workspace, and it’s a bit more secure for storage purposes. However, carports are more affordable.

Yes, barndominiums are designed to withstand strong weather and severe storms if they are built properly by trained professionals. Most barndominiums are made up of a steel structure that can protect a building from winds of up to 150 miles per hour and resist a variety of weather conditions without a major risk of structural damage to the exterior, foundation, or frame.

Rustic and modern farmhouse styles are currently the most popular. These include rustic and antique furniture, muted colors, clean lines, eclectic decor, and natural materials. Some other popular farmhouse styles include the following:

  • Coastal farmhouse: Creates a lighter, airier feel with soft colors and blue palettes, along with gold

  • Colonial farmhouse: Focuses on real antique furniture and decor

  • French farmhouse: Leans on French country architecture and design by including marble and lighter-colored metals, like zinc

  • Industrial farmhouse: Includes thick, chunky furniture and dark metals

  • Scandinavian farmhouse: Usually includes lighter wood colors and more refined furniture
