"William came out to remove two tree stumps from our condominium courtyard. He arrived right on time and we went over the job with him. He quickly sized up the job and gave us a fair price. William was very efficient and thorough in doing all the work that needed to be done to clear the area. He was very professional, kind, and careful to make sure we were happy with his work, and he offered to help with tree planting in the future. We highly recommend William and will definitely call on him again when we need help of this kind."

"New England Tree Experts (NETX) has done several jobs for us over several years: totally professional, careful, thorough. I always thought their prices were fair, but this was reinforced when my friend was quoted $8K to remove just one tree, besides the inconvenience of having her fence dismantled. I told her we'd had more than a dozen HUGE trees removed for less than that! The previous homeowners planted firs and spruces with little thought for their placement or their ultimate size, so we had to arrange for their removal. NETX used a crane to hoist them out, which is a truly AMAZING thing to see! It also means fences, stone walls, etc. remain intact. So you can hire a so-called "professional" who will charge an outrageous price and add insult to injury by knocking down your fence. Or you can call NETX and get the job done safely, neatly, quickly, and for a reasonable price. Guess which choice my friend made?"

Arborists questions, answered by experts

You can use a felling ax to chop down a tree by following the same prep and steps as a chainsaw, but be prepared to use some muscle. For trees bigger than 7 inches in diameter, it can take some time and serious strength to cut down a tree using just an ax.

We recommend removing the stump, and grinding is a popular way to do it. You can also dig out small stumps or stumps that have fully decayed instead of grinding them. However, don’t try using acids or fire for killing a tree stump, which is a fire hazard and illegal in many areas.

Leaving the stump alone invites eventual problems, including attracting termites, mold, and fungi.

No, you cannot throw branches from your neighbor’s tree back into their yard, nor can you discard leaves or other plant matter that originated from their yard back over there if it happens to land in your yard. You are responsible for cleaning up plant matter that made its way into your yard.

Planting a palm tree close to your home can provide shade while elevating the beauty of your yard. However, there are a few safety concerns to consider before doing so. You’ll want to opt for a smaller tree with a non-invasive root system. Select a species that won’t grow too tall and choose a planting location that won’t damage your home.

A tree can split because of high winds, a change in temperature, or from an infestation or tree disease. All of these factors can overlap, making a single cause difficult to pinpoint. While winter storms are some of the most common causes for a tree to split, it can also happen because of termites or rot.
