"We bought a 1951 house with forced hot air, using old 4" round tubes vs. today's square ducts. Every now and then we'd see flecks flutter down from the register. It didn't help that her desk was directly beneath a register. We had a baby coming as well, so...something had to be done. First, a personal education had to occur. Like anyone else who has received a val-pak, there are coupons in it that say they can clean your ducts for $70. But think about it - what can you really get done nowadays for $70? That's just the cost for the service round trip. I never actually called them, because it just didn't feel right and/or the upsell would be so dramatic/hard to swallow...I didn' t want that pressure. I went on to Angie's List and found McDonough. They were local and family owned. I read the reviews, and the other customers were really glowing. I saw what other prices they were paying, which was markedly higher than $70, but decided to ask for a quote. It's a husband and wife team. The husband is really knowledgeable, I believe he was a mechanical contractor prior. They quoted a day - 9 - 5 - @ $1275, and they came under they would charge less, and if they went over that's on them. Thinking about it, that's $75/hour/person for 2 people, plus their equipment. The schedule fit our timeline and we decided to go for it. The day of they came promptly at 9am. They are intensely respectful of the family and customer. This was during Covid, and we had two boys upstairs in class while we were working downstairs. They worked the whole day. Seriously, I don't think they stopped for lunch, and the wife politely asked to use the restroom once. They literally went through every inch of duct in the house. They found things that we otherwise never would have found: one vent had a piece of insulation stuck in it, and a new duct run had some sort of restrictor plate installed to keep all of the air from going to that run, I guess. They finished up around 5:45, no charge for the additional time. I think we really got our money's worth, as it was clear the ducts had not been cleaned before ( = 70 years of buildup). And you could literally hear the difference: it was as if someone had taken a muffler off the system, the volume of air coming out was so much more! Beware that because of this increased volume, you may have random flecks floating down afterward. To me it made sense, they couldn't get EVERYTHING, or that may have been stuck to the register. Honest work for honest pay, and we feel good about what we got in exchange.show more

"Twice, on an emergency basis, at an affordable cost, Patriot responded to our calls of &quot;no heat.&quot; The furnace is aging and they had all of the necessary parts on hand. The technician was prompt, competent beyond description and the price was right. I have a hostile tenant in the house and there was some indication he was tampering with the heating system in order to avoid paying rent. Patriot technicians dealt with this difficult person, gave me the information I needed, kept their professionalism through the ordeal and made a permanent fix for the problem. When I need a new gas furnace, my first call with be to Patriot Mechanical Services of Natick, Mass. The owner followed up with more detailed information. I found them on google and was desperate. "Ivan sent a technician over 1 man to do the job my home is pretty big, he walked around the house to look it over and what needed to be done. I have a vinyl siding with white shell like in the front, house wasn’t extremely dirty but dirty enough especially the front where you can see the white. After 2 hours the house was shining.
