"Over charged my father for a backwater valve repair gave him an invoice with no specific breakdown on the job that was done. Had to request for a breakdown invoice Charged him $4k for a 4 hour job that was not done properly as the basement re flooded again. Gave me a run around for 3 weeks to get a breakdown on the invoice. As you can see from the screenshot.poor work Watch out for these guys. They don’t get the job done and they overcharge. "Topic is a home water supply Shallow Well which operates with a shallow well jet pump + pressure tank installed in the basement. I had been collecting parts over the summer, as I knew the original to house jet pump would go out soon some day and with covid parts are hard to get quick, so started collecting ahead of time. Glad I did as the pump started leaking, from the housing. Replacement needed. Not an emergency but time to get it replaced. Was a ticking clock as it also looked like the pump was twisting putting stress on piping as original owner did not mount it and other fittings had large amounts of corrosion on them. I supplied these parts for the job: new 1hp jet pump, 44 Gal. pressure tank with T package, water filter housing, brass fittings, brass check valve, brass ball valves, 1" copper pipe and some copper fitting, and 2x10 pressure treated board to mount the pump/board to the floor with concrete anchors. Called up Sila on 10/14, master plumber Dave was available on 10/16 to come quote the job of installing what I supplied and misc. parts still needed. Talked with me and received my requests for specific design wants and he supplied his opinions & additional ideas and other options like wall mounting of water filter, sensor shutoff option and different water filter all together and we worked out the plan, did not do the different filter or sensor though. Talked about brass pipe and fittings at the pump up to the pressure tank and we agreed what I had purchased was good and would last a lifetime, vs copper all the way which would still last a long time. Quoted $2800 with water filter bypassing and $2600 without the water filter bypassing. Job was scheduled for 10/22. Quote was high level line item as listed here. Came a bit late on 10/14, due to an emergency call, no big deal Dave called to let me know. Was on time for installation on 10/22, 7:30am. Two workers on Job (Dave + 1, sorry I’m horrible with names +1 was an electrician and was helping Dave) Job took ~ 8 hours to finish. What was not able to be completed: Was not able to replace old original check valve. Well started to suck air when old was started to be removed, confirming there is no foot valve on the line or a broken one, so old check valve was kept. Concern was not being able to recover from air going down the well pipe causing priming issues. At this point the job would require a well expert and was not able to be replaced by Sila. What part of job was mis-understood: Mounting of jet pump to board/floor. Ended up missing the concrete anchors to start and installing after the fact with a different method. Made it more difficult to mount the pump and did scratch the rust proof paint. But it got done. Nice and sturdy. What was complicated on the job: Something that should have not been an issue at all went wrong. I had purchased 1” brass unions. There were two unions installed. One was found to be causing leaks during the initial job installation. This caused extra rework during the initial job. After job completion and area dried with a fan, it was found that both unions were leaking. The original one that had issues in the initial job and the 2nd one. One is pre pump and one is post pump. Called Sila office on 10/23 and told them what was happening, Dave’s earliest availability to come back was was 10/26. He was on time on 10/26. Dave stated that 1 union was giving trouble and replaced it with one spare that I had also purchased. When looking at the 2nd union again he was not able to get it to seal and he made the call and changed the design to direct copper connection and no union, I did not object as at this point just wanted the job done. No More leaks on that location, but also no ability to easily break the connection for future maintenance. When left no leaks. However, after using water for a while the 1st union started leaking again. Texted Dave direct with a picture and said he could return on 10/28 and I requested him to bring a union from his supply. Arrived when he could with ~ 1hr notice and replaced the union with one of his. When looking closer at the issue unions that I had purchased it was found they were cracking. Summary: I’m a novice in pluming, reason for calling Sila. I wish Dave would have noticed the poor part / crack issue and replaced unions from his stock on day 1. I was trying to save time by collecting parts over time and ended up causing issues. Dave knew he was working with brass and seems like he did not have backup stock on site incase of issues. Wish he did as I’d have two unions… and he would not have had to come back twice to repair the leaks. The call was made to not use the brass ball valves I purchased so it was clear that my parts were recommended to use but not absolute. Overall Dave and team did a great job, it’s clean, organized, valves and drain spickets installed nice and logically, filter is at good height, job completed like I asked and planned with Dave, except for the above jet pump mounting, union issue and check valve replacement discussion above here. Dave and team was professional and focused to get the job done. Thanks Dave for your hard work. Reason for Rating: I am giving this job an A rating based on the end result, Sila stood by the workmanship and resolved the issues that arose. That is a sign of a great company. If I would not have supplied the couplers that issue would not have happened ultimately and the check valve & well priming issue was just out of reach and would have required a well specialist to complete. The pump mounting was probably just lost in the large amount of details we had discussed, again it is mounted sturdy."

"I used to like them. Use them for my big install of backup basement sump pump. This time, I was out of the country, my rental property in MA needs a toilet fix. It was a standard water tank leak and we need to replace the inside mechanism. Milltown came and said 'rebulid the toilet', my wife authorize them to do it as I was not reachable at the time their plumber was at the rental property. They were in and out according to my tenant for at most 45 min, rebuilding two toilet tank and fixed the leak. The bill came to be 1200, $600 a toilet. One line item on the receipt is $470 for the kit they use to replace the plastic mechanism inside the water tank. I casually google the kit, I can get a universal sup kit for the toilet to replace that for $20. I called them, manager came on gave me that talk - we did hundreds of toilet leak and we average all of them to come up with the cost for that line item, which includes (a) parts (b) labor (c) our service guarantee for a prompt and reliable service Say they charge $200 /hr labor, 1 hr for two toilet is $100 labor for 1 toilet (remember, the plumber was there like 30-45 min rebuilding the two toilet). Say total parts are $100 (with markup), we are talking about $200 for fixing the leak of 1 toilet. They charged almost $600 for one toilet. You can do that math. I expect some up charge, but I am not paying $300 just for getting prompt reliable service. I turned around and asked for a few reliable plumber quote from Thumbstack with great reviews, most can do the job for $200 labor and I can get them the universal kit they will be able to come on the same day. So maybe if you want Milltown to do bigger job, that is ok. For smaller job, it does not worth it. Replacing the toilet flush mechanism is really not rocket science in plumbing. If I am not thousands of miles away, I would have done it myself after watching some Youtube video. I am willing to pay up charge for the service, but this is really above and beyond the normal up charge range, $1200 for a 30 min job replacing the toilet flushing mechanism in the water tank!!"

"Rescue plumbing really rescued me! I had a clogged kitchen sink, I cleaned the traps blew out the pipes but just couldnâ t get the sink to drain. I spoke to Cody and he was so helpful and knowledgeable he sent Ari out the next day and he fixed it within 20 minutes he was very knowledgeable and explained everything gave a bunch of tips and recommendations. "STAY AWAY. Numerous issues and they will cost you more money without you knowing it. I just found out that I was on a **DO NOT SERVICE** list (after all the grief they have given me.) I am ticked off. Here is a summary due to the character limit: 1. They installed a faulty HTP tankless hybrid water heater. I argued with them for what I think was a good year before a HTP tech finally determined that I was right. Replaced it with a Rinnai RUR199in. 2. They took (stole) my oval ductwork and replaced it. I was fine with the replacement. I looked the other way but it was expensive and they never asked - they just hauled it away. Most homeowners probably do not realize how expensive and unusual that oval ductwork is. I could have even recycled it at a profit. 3. I recommended them to a neighbor only to find cops all over their home one day. Their plumber stole their special needs kids controlled medications after having them go into other rooms to turn on and off the faucets. I just chalked it up to a bad apple. 4. HUGE ROOKIE mistake. They short-cycled the new air handler. Vent was right next to the main return (2in. away.) Unecessary wear and tear, high electric and gas usage, and discomfort. Whatever was coming out was immediately suck back in. Unfortunately I did not realize this until a couple years later. 5. HUGE ROOKIE mistake. They never installed the 2-stage wiring. See directly above. Look it up. HUGE discrepancies in temperatures and sky high bills. Premature wear and tear. I wrote Freddy Jr. about this which might be the reason why I am on their list. But still, that is their job to get it right and not mine. Most people would have no clue for the life of their system. 6. They did not hook up the high-limit kill switch/float on the condensation pump which led to a flood and destroyed antiques. I hooked it up in less than 10 minutes. 7. I was told one day that the original manger was fired because he was skimming clients from the company. 8. There is no check valve on the recirculation line which they installed on the new tankless they replaced. I believe it is code and now I have to hire someone else ([business name removed]) to fix their screwup which likely killed my internal recirculation pump. Again, unecessary wear and tear along with high energy bills. I was willing to look the other way on so many things but the truth is they get away with this because most homeowners do not know any better. In other cases, I figured that no one is perfect and we all make mistakes. But then to find out that I was blacklisted a few years later because I called them out on their BS after I needed their help yesterday? The only thing I can think is that I ended up costing them more money on things they should have done properly in the first place. It is a company that needs better oversight and apparently has awful management. I am not bragging but I have an advanced engineeering background creating petroleum engineering training material for big oil (aka plumbing on steroids--makes this look like childs play), programming, developing systems for hydroponics, working with heat and waste recovery systems, fixing combustion engines, and building computers for over 20 years. My point is that I noticed a lot of things that most people would overlook because I know how many things work. I called them out and that is the only explanation as to why I could have been blacklisted. But do yourself a favor and go with [business name removed] or [business name removed] instead. It is not to say that others cannot screw up, but this is my experience with them and the straw that broke the camels back. Mention that you read this here and thank you. Perhaps the next company will not mess you up under the guise/protection of teamsters and protectionist unions that overcharge with ridiculous licensing requirements that ends up meani..."
